Padres place Headley on waivers. Teams do this at this time of year. It is not unusual for players to be placed on waivers. It doesn't mean that are looking to trade him but it does indicate they will listen. I can't hope he is traded or not without knowing what we would get in return. We probably would get well below what we could get next year due to his current poor season. The Padres want to sign him this off-season but that may be a problem. Headley wants to be paid as if he will produce close to last year's production. The Padres want to sign him to a contract that considers this year and last year. The result will likely mean he goes into next year unsigned, in his contract year. That is not appealing. Since the Padres have stated more than a 20% increase in payroll will happen, Headley's $9 million will not be a reduction in overall salary. That means we will get $9 million in salary in addition to whatever players we obtain. The Padres could be better without him (especially if last year was the aberation). The trade would give Forsythe a position and we could use the extra money for a stud CF, if we don't get one in the trade. So I am more open to a trade then I would have been earlier in the season. I like Headley. I think he will come back and be a very good player. I was always on his side over Koozzzzz, who is in "AAA" now.

It's really hard to figure out Headley. My gut tells me he's not this guy or the 2013 guy. I think he's probably a better 'hitter' than this year is showing, and that his .286/.370/.400 year in '11 is probably more what he is--a first division regular but not an all-star caliber player. How much power he hits for is really an open ended question, and the biggest point of disagreement between the two parties this off-season.

Recalled. So someone put in a claim on him. It will be an interesting off-season to see what happens with him.
