Not coincidently, the Padres have 50 games left this year.

LOL. This guy has been a glorified Ricky Gutierrez clone while ON steroids. What's he gonna look like now? (Actually, over the last few weeks I think we've been getting a glimpse.) My advice to the Padres is to go find a SS who's a lot more subtle in his PED use than this guy has been. Stay away from players with any Florida connections---down there, they're living in the 1990's in terms of PED's. Cabrera will be just fine. He'll continue to be a top notch short stop defensively, and put up solid offensive numbers.

He's a good fielder, but I'd be surprised if his lifetime BA is over .250. When he first came to the padres the highest level of pro ball he ever played was single A. He's 26. Last year he less the NL in stolen bases and this year he would have ran away with it. He's earned the right to be a big part of our future. This is just another example of you devaluing legitimate talent. The padres are a s#!++y organization as a whole, but not all of the individual parts are s#!++y.

Cabrera used PEDs to help rehab a shoulder injury. I think what we saw this year is much more a natural progression from a 25 year old to a 26 year old. I expect him to come back and improve even more, offensively. Defensively we may have seen the best year of his career. Defense peaks a lot sooner than offense.

Stay away from players with any Florida connections---down there, they're living in the 1990's in terms of PED's. John, you fail again to realize the factor of age in a player's development. Below is a table with the top 10 hitters (BA) in baseball and their BA when they were 25 years old. I use BA as a 25 year old because that is what Cabrera was before this "breakout" year. 1 | Player | Team | BA | 25 YO BA | 1 | Miguel Cabrera | DET | .359 | 0.292 | 2 | Chris Johnson | ATL | .342 | 0.251 | 3 | Michael Cuddyer | COL | .330 | 0.245 | 4 | Yadier Molina | STL | .330 | 0.275 | 5 | Mike Trout | LAA | .329 | He is only 21 | 6 | Allen Craig | STL | .321 | 0.246 | 7 | Joey Votto | CIN | .321 | 0.322 | 8 | Joe Mauer | MIN | .321 | 0.328 | 9 | David Ortiz | BOS | .318 | 0.272 | 10 | Torii Hunter | DET | .316 | 0.261 | | Average | | .329 | .277 |
That shows almost a .050 point difference in BA. The data is skewed because we use players who are doing well this year but the overall point is true...25 year olds improve a bunch over the next few years in baseball, as a general rule.

EC seems like a much better player.

A ton of these guys that get nailed have said it was for injury recuperation. Regardless of the reason, he cheated. Not that I really care to be honest, since I believe PEDs to be all over the sport, and expect that to continue. The dealers are still ahead of the testing.

He is hitting 40 points higher with the PEDs. Players are going to continue to use them and try to hide it with masking agents, there is too much money on the table.

Players who were 25 years old in 2012 and 2013 BA Player 2012 2013 DifferenceCabrera .246 .283 .037 C.Rasmus .223 .273 .050 Jay Bruce .252 .273 .021 B.Crawford .248 .275 .027 J.Kipnis .257 .290 .033 Y.Alonso .273 .295 .022 J.Castro .257 .272 .015 It goes the other way too but overall 26 year olds improve over their 25 year old performance. Although some of Cabrera's improvement may be because he used PEDs before the 2012 season, it is not clear what percentage is just normal development. I suspect a high percentage of the improvement had nothing to do with PEDs.

Of course the cloud of suspicion is now over any player who somehow raises his average or increases his HR total and the current generation is certainly not exempt. The decades old sequence of player is suspected, player proclaims innocence, player is later revealed as a liar is getting embarrassing and disgraceful to Major League Baseball. The league needs to get serious with its enforcement or risk losing even more fans, surely they must realize that the credibility of their game is at stake. I do believe in innocence until proven guilt, but when the track record is that nearly everyone of them to a man has not been truthful, you will have to forgive me when I seem a bit skeptical.
