If you want more evidence, go to Google Images and enter "Packard factory today." The difference between the photos of the plant up to the early 1950s and what it looks like today, 57 years after it was closed, is stark. (And, by the way, ask yourself why the city was not able to find another use for the complex or at least tear it down and build something new on the land.)
Berlin, Hamburg, and Essen did not look a whole lot worse in 1945. And, of course, those and other German cities had the excuse that a few tens of thousands of Allied planes had been bombing the hell out of them for about three years.

Tax and spend will not, and has never, led to prosperity in the long run. as a timeline lengthens, the survival rate of anything approaches zero

It looks like Philadelphia is going down the same path.

Please remember that you will find her books in the FICTION section. For many many cons, fiction is their reality.

But Detroit is not fiction. The fact is that Detroit was a wealthy, healthy, proud city in 1950. You think that's a long time ago? Hell, I can remember 1950. It can't have been THAT long. Today Detroit is, basically, where Berlin, Tokyo, and those other bombed-out cities were in 1945. The place is a total mess.
We all know that the decline of the auto dinosaurs hit Detroit hard. We can't forget how much damage that inflicted on the city. Still, Detroit, had it not been run by cooked politicians for so long, need not have fallen as much as it has.
Anyone who thinks that the lessons of Detroit can be ignored by other cities in the U.S. is delusional.

Pittsburg is an example of a city that can turn itself around. If they can do it then so can Detroit and others.

Pittsburg is an example of a city that can turn itself around. If they can do it then so can Detroit and others. Any city could turn itself around if they recognize the problem or care about the problem. Detroit and most likely Philadelphia just don't care.
