Keyvius Sampson turned 22 early this year. He was one of the Padres top prospects before last year when he had a 5.00 ERA in 25 starts in "AA". This year he started in "AAA" at 22 years old...an age and level that showed great confidence by the Padres. In his 4 starts in "AAA" he had a 8.03 ERA and was then demoted to a more age appropriate "AA". Keyvius Sampson's star had tarnished. In 12 starts in "AA" his ERA is 2.58. Last 4 starts25.2 Innings 12 Hits 6 Walks 33 Ks 1 Earned Run(s) 0.70 WHIP 0.35 ERA Last 2 starts 7 IP, 2 Hits, 0 ER, 1 Walk, 12 Ks. 7 IP, 2 Hits, 1 ER, 0 Walk, 10 Ks. He is pitching tonight. Hopefully Keyvius is beginning to show what many expected from him. Time will tell.

After reading about how the Padres had finally attempted to draft guys and pay them fair value--or even above slot--he was definitely one to watch. Glad to see him picking it up this year, we could use all the SP help we can get at the moment.

Post All-Star Game Stats for Keyvius in "AA". 7 Starts 44 Innings 1.64 ERA 0.68 WHIP .143 OBA 9 Walks 56 Strikeouts 5-0 Record He is 22.5 years old. His 2.43 ERA in 18 starts is 3rd in the Texas League. But the ages of the 4 pitchers who have ERAs below 3.00 are 25,26,28, and Sampson's 22. Every pitcher ranked 1-16 in ERA is older. The 17th pitcher is 5 months younger and has a 4.53 ERA. I think he is firmly back on the Padres radar.

Well, it's always nice to read about the AA guys (some more and again) when theres little positive to write about with the parent club.

Let Keyvius continue to work on his command of the fastball and refine his secondary stuff. I think he'll be a Padre next year at some point.
