Gotta wonder if they suspect Cabrera will not be available soon due to a 50 game suspension.
That would hurt. Cabrera has been very good on offense and defense.

Scouting Report: Excellent defensive shortstop with good speed. Makes decent contact, but has below-average plate discipline and minimal power. Sounds good. Excellent defense is what we need. Just don't bat him in the top 5 of the order. Hitting 6th or 7th is good. Somewhere where he has a better chance at RBIs than runs.

It could also be a case of Maybin's injury being worse that they thought and Amarista will be the primary CF against RHP. Ciriaco may be here to fill his "utility infielder" slot to free him up for more regular OF time.

Venable or Denoria should be there...mostly Venable. The timing of the trade could be incredible with Cabrera's availability in question.

Was at the game last night, other than the K's (who didn't K for the Pads?) I thought he looked good...

I saw he got 3 hits. He had good range and quickness, got to a ball in the 5.5 hole that was legged out for a single but may have gone for two with a quick runner and Blanks playing back. He also had a nice run in, gather, and across the body throw to retire speedy Perez I believe in either the 11th or 12th.

It looked like he underestimated Perez's speed on Perez's first infield hit, probably should have had him. Pads prob didn't have a scouting report on Perez yet though, the kid can fly (and has a gun which we found out the hard way with his cannon-assist put out at 3rd earlier in the game). Ciriaco showed great range on Perez's 2nd infield hit (nice snag in the 5.5 hole) but had no chance to get him at first (no SS would have) and made the smart choice to eat the ball. The rest of the game he looked solid.
