In the Cardinal series the Padres will face two of the best starters in MLB this season but lucked out as it could have been 3.
Monday Shelby Miller 8 Starts 1.40 ERA Tuesday Adam Wainwright 9 Starts 2.51 ERA
The spot in the rotation that occurs Wednesday belongs to Jake Westbrook (6 starts 1.62 ERA) but he is injured. Instead the Cardinals will call up a pitcher to make his MLB Debut.
Tyler Lyons 8 starts in "AAA" 4.47 ERA - 25 Years Old. Tyler had 15 starts last year in "AAA" with a 4.27 ERA.

I couldn't find anyone to go with me so I went with two tickets in my season ticket section 114. I traded the two for one in 108 row 21. Those were nice seats but had a lot of Cardinal fans around. They were very UNLV-Like, when they were losing they asked how many times we made the playoffs. That's when you know you are winning.
Very good game.
Shelby Miller 1.40 ERA but we got 3 runs and knocked him out a (pitch count) after 5.2 innings. The Padres defense was great except for a bad hop single that gave St Louis an UER and the lead in the 3rd.
This is the 2nd game we won with a lop sided pitching matchup against us. We beat Zimmerman of the Nationals the prior series.
Padres are playing some good ball.
The Padres are 8 games over .500 since starting the season by going 10 under real fast.

The Padres are playing competitive baseball, and they play hard. I'm going to make it out to a home game in June for sure.
Let's hope their improved play continues. I think I predicted what, 75 wins?

Hopefully Grandal can come back and add a spark.
I'm just about through with the Maybin experience. Dude has all of the talent and physical capabilities and he just can't put the solid part of the bat on the ball.

Or is he just a good athlete who can't hit a baseball very well? I suspect the latter.

Maybins "good" year (2011), looks nice because he stole 40 bags while only getting caught 8 times. And, he hit over .260. However, his OBP was only .323 and his OPS a very mediocre .716.
The year before, he had over 350 PA's in FLA and his OPS was a terrible .663.
He's 26 now. Not a pup anymore. When he is back from his wrist injury, we'll find out if he's going to contribute.
Though there is precedent for leadoff men who don't get on base at a high clip but can steal bases (see: Juan Pierre), Pierre had some .340 OBP seasons, and the dude was a much better hitter than Maybin has shown. Pierre led the NL in hits for Chicago one season.

The marked improvement in Cabrera this season, shows that players can improve. Maybin is still only 26. Maybin doesn't need a high OPS if his OBP is high. I would love a .350 OBP and 350 SLG. With his defense and base stealing ability, that would improve the Padres. Speaking of CF. I don't understand what the Padres are seeing with Amarista in CF. It is obvious to me that he gets late jumps, takes bad routes, and finishes badly. He needs to play LF when he plays with WV, CD.

Pierre led the NL in hits for Chicago one season. Maybin hasn't actualized yet, but the excitement isn't over his athleticism. It was when he was 18, but in 1800 minor league plate appearances, Maybin's a .305/.393/.477 hitter. His numbers are very consistent at every level; that's not buoyed by production at A+ and lower. If he can make the necessary adjustments to ML pitching, he has shown ability, not just tools. Now whether that will happen or not...we'll see. I don't really get why people are upset about Maybin today, nearing the end of a DL stint and having just 37 plate appearances before succumbing to a wrist/hand injury seems like a strange time for frustration with him to bubble to the surface, but in general I agree that he's disappointed in his ML career.
