Nick Hundley was injured last April and struggled through the season until finally resigning himself to a surgery. Some fans assumed last year's terrible stats are the new normal for Hundley instead of allowing for the effects of his knee injury.
Considering that, it is nice to watch Hundley hit this year. He looks really good. He looks much more like the second half of 2011 than his injury riddled 2012.
Having a healthy Hundley is a big plus. Grandal will come back in early June. Have a tandem of good catchers allows plenty of rest at a position where that is important. If they both hit like I think they can, the Padres might try to find at bats for one of them at a different position.
Hundley has one thing that is rare for Padres players. He hits very well in Petco Park. The best 3 year and best 2 year offensive performance by a Padres player at Petco Park were both put in by Nick Hundley.

Hopefully they are both good and we can trade one of them for an established pitcher.

I doubt many teams would want Maybin. There's a reason the Padres got him for who...Mujica? Refresh my memory. Maybin can't hit. He's a late inning defensive replacement & pinch runner on any good ball club. Face it. For those scoring at home...Rizzo hit his fourth homer today.

ARizzo .180 .305 .460 .765 ALonzo .309 .371 .473 .844 Alonzo is having a better year so far.

I know this is a novel concept Bill, but it IS possible to accumulate multiple GOOD ballplayers. Young ones yet to hit their prime, at that. We gave Rizzo away for a 4 starter/reliever (depends). He isnt hitting for average YET, but he is walking and hitting for power. A fine start for the kid. I like Alonzo just fine, and I like Hundley also.

Both deserve to and need to (to preserve value and develop) play full time. Rizzo has a higher ceiling because he is only 23 while Alonzo is already 25. But we will control Alonzo right through his prime years. Rizzo will become a free agent just when he reaches his prime. So there is a trade off there. We will control Cashner right through his prime 25-28 years old. Cashner is not yet at his prime and has a chance to become a very good pitcher. It is not like we gave Rizzo away for nothing.

You don't trade guys with his minor league stats and scouting report for a guy who projects to be a reliever or 3-4 starter.

They project Cashner higher than that. The Padres think Cashner has a good chance to be #1 or #2 pitcher.
