He's the epitomical Steve Fisher recruit. Selfless, aggressive, rebounder. And he's only a sophomore. Expect great things from Mr. O'Brien. The McDonald's All-American nominee played like one today! (Excuse the Utes picture; it's just epic)

I've been critical of JJ in the past but I must say he played great today. His level of play has really improved since conference play started.

Great to see him get the TV interview at the end of the game. Dude finally cracked a smile; seems like a lot of weight has been lifted off his shoulders.

like night and day. I've seen it before. praise will come when consistency is his game. Consistency seems to be his personality. He had amazing numbers all throughout high school, not to say that that matters, but it says something. He just needs to remember what he did this game, and take an example from that. It seems like he's intelligent enough to do so.

He basically lost us the game with all his missed easy shots when we played UNLV. If he plays like he did today for the rest of the season I'll join ya.

How can a dude who misses 3 or 4 shots have ost a game where other individuals missed 8 or 10, with more turn overs. The team won today, the team lost to Vegas.

i hope all the bullsiht naysayers come on this one to eat some crow. His play prior to the NV game deserved criticism. I'm sure everyone is happy and impressed about his play today, but his critics don't have to eat crow. They were right at the time.

I'm sure everyone is happy and impressed about his play today, but his critics don't have to eat crow. They were right at the time. because he was missing layups?? maybe it's just my opinion, but when a kid gets to be playing major d1 basketball layups stop being a concern. of course that is different from missed layups being a concern, but c'mon... it isn't like JJ doesn't know how to put the ball in the hoop from 2 feet out - he just had a bad run, probably fueled by both pressure and dumb luck. like I said, tonight was the first night I was impressed by JJ. But I also remember JFrank and Tapley doing interviews in the early season saying OBrien was THE GUY that was going to surprise people. If this is his coming out party, well then hot damn let's get the party started. I have a feeling by the time he leaves this place, JJ is going to be loved by A LOT of fans for the same reasons Timmy was.

That JJ O'Brien sure was horrible today.....why does Fisher keep putting him out there? Seriously, though.......what a freaking effort by that guy today! It seemed like every time a shot would bounce off the rim, there was JJ O'Brien to put it back up......AND HE MADE HIS SHOTS TODAY!!!!! Looks like he's finally shaken off whatever was screwing him up. I even thought he handled the point fairly well, too. Not great, but effective enough......although he did press his luck getting across the time line a few times in the second half. All in all, hands down and without question the player of this game. He did a little bit of everything, including D'ing up Alex Kirk quite nicely at times.

Jj is actually our biggest mismatch on court. he can take bigger guys off dribble and post up smaller guys. he just needs to finish. he has great moves.

I have nowhere else to put this... but have the TV on ESPN and their ad for this weeks games included the quote "John Callipari and Kentucky take on the underdog role to face #23 Mississippi and the SEC's leading scorer Marshall Henderson"
made me sick. that little kid is a joke.

If this is the start of what we'll be seeing with O'Brien, then all we lack is a center to be a complete team. I sure hope Spencer develops in time to be effective in the NCAA. The tandem of Stephens and Spencer should be adaquate however.

The tandem of Stephens and Spencer should be adaquate however. Stephens had his moments today, but Spencer in my mind was by far the better player of the two. He's just much stronger and more physical, whereas Stephens is looking to avoid contact and be more of an athlete. It's almost as if he's playing out of position at the 5.

Plus Spencer has much more potential and apparently plays smart, few mistakes here and there but he's still very young.
