I have mostly had respect for Phil, however, with his crying about having to pay so much income tax, I only say, "don't let the door hit you on the way out the door"...Sure the wealthy have to pay a lot of taxes but what an arrogant SOB to be complaining when so many of us struggle to make ends meet....Hope he never wins another tourney again.

I don't care how much you make, getting taxed 64% sucks and IMO he has every right to express his opinion.

This just calls your attention to a big problem here in California. No matter how you feel about what these big money earners make and how much tax they do pay vs what they should pay, they are individuals and have the right to arrange their affairs to reduce their tax burden. Part of that would be a move to a lower tax State or even to Monte Carlo.
Just saw a proposal to scrap the State Income Tax and increase the sales tax. Would that keep people here?

BTW the sports media seems to be every bit as liberal as their news counterparts. The spin at ESPN and other outlets is how dare he voice his concerns about paying higher taxes. Paying roughly two thirds of your income to the government and keeping one third yourself is right out of the European Socialist economic model, and they are broke!
I am glad that there are sports figures who stand up for what is right, and oppressive taxes are completely UnAmerican. That is the spirit which inspired the American Patriots in 1775 to stand up to the British oppressors who imposed the high taxes in the first place.
Phil Mickelson is a patriot and a great American!

Whaa Boo Hoo He should be proud to pay those taxes. Where but in America could someone earn 60 million a year playing a game. I wish I had his problem.

Is he still going to come to California to play in tournaments that are held on municipal courses? Didn't he learn to play on courses ran by that big bad government that is telling him to pay his share on the money he earns playing a game? What a cry baby.

The high rate is NOT on every dollar he earns obviously....Why not give more to charity with your foundation Phil....His announcent was very arrogant in my opinion...That he was going to be "forced" to move out of state....He has more money that he will ever be able to use.

Dave Goldberg @davegoldberg84 Mickelson tied for 91st. Think of tax savings if he keeps it up. Retweeted by Kent Somers
