Last season, Aztecs started 4 guards and a post player at 6'7. Aztecs won 26 games, MWC league championship and NCAA at-large bid.
At this time last season, Aztecs 17-2 and 3-0 in conference play with the following line-up Thames, Tapley, Franklin, Rahon and Shelton.
Now, today is Sunday and I have not been smoking or drinking. Here's my SOLUTION. Let me know what ya'll think about this.
Aztecs start the 4 guards, Thames, Tapley, Franklin and Rahon, and I know I am going to get slammed for the post player, but I believe Skylar Spencer should be the post player.
Maybe going back to this line-up will place Jamaal back into his night mare match-up ability; Rahon will be involved early on in the game, as it appears that coming off the bench is not productive.
Thames and Tapley are back to the same roles that they played last season. Spencer is more effective offensively and defensively than DeShawn.
Like the old cliche' goes, "if it aint broke don't fix it. Well. after the last two games, Aztecs breaking up and needs fixin!"

Like the old cliche' goes, "if it aint broke don't fix it. Well. after the last two games, Aztecs breaking up and needs fixin!" Yes they are. And any move by Fish to right the ship is ok by most fans. It isn't working with the current lineup. It wouldn't hurt for at least a small dose of humility to creep into that locker room. Reality is knocking at the door.

My initial reaction was it wouldn't work. However, the more I think about it, the more it seems it would be worth a try.
Gotta get JJ out of the starting lineup, that's for sure and your suggestion would do so.

If there ever was a "In Fish we trust" moment, this is it. I will not be the least bit surprised by something different in the lineup/rotation for the UNR game.
Whether it is the 4 guard lineup or a switch in JJ starting makes no difference to most of us. Just win baby. And whatever it takes to achieve those means please do it Fish.
You've done it before without being a screamer. I'm sure you can/will do it again.
Go Aztecs!

On further thought, I think Fish may have read their demeanor in the locker room or sized up the attitudes and thought he would give them just enough rope to hang themselves. Now that they have, it is probably time to drop the hammer in that subtle Fish "I am the boss" kind of way.
Like run like hell on Monday. And lineup changes on Wednesday.
"In Fish we trust".

miners22, how would you feel about Winston instead of Rahon? My thoughts exactly! I think that lineup would be solid.

I'm on board with miners. I think it'd be worth a shot to start Rahon for a couple games to see, as miners alluded to, if he can get untracked. And, heck yeah, give Spencer more minutes and accelerate his learning curve.

I have no trouble with starting Skyler and Stevens at the same time. But you are forgetting one big flaw in your line up ...........X is not healthy, yet. So who do you suggest should pick up the slack, I would say LBF but he's no where to be found at this time.
Gatta play with what you have not the team you think you have!

This 4 guard lineup is a good suggestion figuring how well they did last year. It could make mismatches for the opposition to keep up with our quickness again and it may make all the transfers and young guys really take a good look at how they are contributing and fitting into what has been built here at SDSU. HOWEVER, my main worry is that on the boards we have been getting manhandled. It really seems like all the other teams in the MWC, UNLV, New MEX, CSU, and even WYO have all really added some quality height to their starting lineups and have all busted us up on the rebounds so far. I'd much rather see a big lineup first with our group and then try the 4 guards if this doesn't work.
X (when healthy) Tapley Franklin Stephens Spencer

X if healthy, or Shepard Tapley Jamaal Stephens Spencer
It is simply too crowded for the guards on offense and not enough presence inside the key. Fisher needs to go to a more traditional lineup. Spencer has proven he deserves more time, even if is just for defense.

Different ideas but one consensus, which is that Spencer needs to be getting a lot more minutes and O'Brien needs to be getting a lot less.
