Watching Jamaal (who is crazy if he thinks he's ready for the NBA) once again, and now Sheppard playing out of control and undisciplined basketball and also now getting technical fouls called on him...this is on Coach Fisher.
Hate to say that, but if Fisher is not the disciplinarian for the Aztecs, then one of his other coaches needs to play "bad guy" and start ringing some necks for costing the rest of the team a chance to get back into games because of stupidity and wreckless play.
Never mind this "pretending we do not see" - - - there needs to be a team meeting with "accountability" as the main topic...

I saw Shepard being subbed for with about ten minutes left to play in the 2nd half, as he walked by Fish neither one looked at the other. I don't know has Fish lost this team?
Jamal can't get a call on the way to the basket, he can't get any kind of call. The bald guy for the Cowboys ran him over with about seven minutes left on the near sideline when we were pressing to get back in the game. No whistle no nothing.
We might have made run with about six minutes left, down seven Shepard fouls the guy 30 feet from the basket, gets a "T" for showing up the ref, plus fouls himself out, gives the Cowboys 4 free throws, Best thing about Freshmen is that they become Sophomores.

But sometimes before Freshmen become Sophomores, their coaches lay into them and smack 'em upside the head, and tell them without blinking, "You will NOT cause our team a chance to get back into the game again !" And sit his ass down for a game to think about that... You would be surprised how a team would respect THAT, and it might even help turn around things. I think "accountability" is a lost word right now with the Aztecs basketball program...and I think Jamaal gets away with WAY TOO MUCH crap with Coach Fisher, too ! That guy seems to play to his own beat, with little accountability - - Jamaal is a talent, but he also has far too many "mental farts" and bad decisions in so many games this year. Simply, Jamaal is NOT ready for the next level yet...

Fisher won't do it. Never did. Never will. Then TIM SHELTON should kick some gosh-damm asses - - Shelton should call his OWN "team meeting" and swat some bad attitudes himself !

Jamaal is driving too deep into the paint and getting himself in trouble. Other teams know he's going in to draw fouls. Now they're just turning him over. He'll adjust. If the team does not respond to pre-game enthusiasm (like the UT said this morning), is that on the players or is that on the coach ?
I mean, did you see Fisher's face during yesterday's 1st half ? The Aztec players looked like the 3-Stooges...almost like they were "throwing" a FIXED game on purpose....
Fisher should have been ripping into these guys - - but didn't. Fisher should have called at least one time out, to get these guys back on track - - but didn't.
It was almost like the players and Fish had some "bad karma" about one another, maybe before the game even started some bad blood came out, I don't know.
But the body language between all the Aztecs personnel was blatently obvious as I watched that 1st half come to a close.
Somethin' is definitely going on behind closed doors with this group...

I think you definitely have a finger on the pulse of this team's chemistry with this observation. What I'm not sure of is whether your takes will sit well with the blind optimists on this board. Oh well it is what it is. Hopefully Fish can reel them in and get them to buy back in to flexible creativity within the scope of discipline on offense or they might be in for a really long conference ride.

That isn't Fish. You can't switch some coaches from the mentor- teacher style to a flaming style. It's forced, it's phony and the kids won't buy in. Fish will work his magic but he needs a Tremaine Davis or Tim Shelton to emerge from the team. Yes, I know TES is a GA, but I'm saying we need a player to be that guy. Fish doesn't really need to adopt a flaming style to sit some of the problems on the bench to adjust their attitudes a bit. He can still be quite the teacher within that scope.

Teams tend to take on the attributes of their floor general in the midst of play. Last year we had Tim Shelton. Though not the most physically talented, he was respected for his grit, unselfishness and leadership.
Thames, Tapley, Stevens and Rahon don't seem to be the vocal-types of leaders and while Jamaal has great work ethic, a non-stop motor and seems most likely to step-up and lead, he's also got, well, "Jamaal issues."

Having one Jamaal is fine but he can't lead by example. We need someone else and you are right, he needs to be vocal but also earned their respect in order to have moral authority.
