www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/jan/11/big-east-meeting-does-nothing-to-resolve/{ An interested bystander, certainly, is Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell. His conference stands to gain a $1.5 million penalty from SDSU if it doesn’t join as planned in July in most sports except football. But it is one large check he would prefer not receiving. “I’m hoping San Diego State finds a future with the Big East in football,” Farrell, an SDSU alum, said Friday night, “because we certainly want the Aztecs. We’ve delivered what we said we would to San Diego State in terms of media exposure and TV exposure in men’s basketball. “I don’t want to lose the Aztecs, yet at the same time I totally understand and appreciate that this is a football issue and they have to do what they think is best for their school.” SDSU had successfully lobbied a reluctant Big West membership to provide Boise State a home for its other sports so it could also join the Big East in football. Boise State President Bob Kustra then used that leverage to cut a better deal with the Mountain West. } ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could the $1.5 mil. exit fee be part of the equation that may keep SDSU in the Big East? Does the last sentence make one feel used? Could all things combined be the sourness that may keep us headed east? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And this - bleacherreport.com/articles/1473259-it-is-time-for-the-big-east-and-san-diego-state-to-be-bold

Con man Bob, did in fact do that. By also cutting and running alone, he eliminated any leverage for State while taking the whole like for himself.
Con Man Bob, engaged in prisoner's delima. Which speaks volumes.
Bob wins this round, but he just academically isolated his University. University of Idaho already hates hem in State and he has now made enemies of AAU member Tulane, USNA, etc....
Long term, he cut open a gashing wound.
In any event, State needs to stand on its own two feet and move forward.

Their ultimate dream is to be in the PAC but he keeps forgetting that he needs to improve the other side of the campus as well as football. Pulling shenanigans like this aren't going to make it easier to work hand in hand with better institutions academically.

Considering peer review and rep is a large component, they will never ascend over regional. The PAC is about market as well. The Boise market is not cose to a PAC market.
