Attached are the poll results from a UT Poll that was attached to their BE/BW vs. MWC article last Saturday. Even with the MWC choice worded in a somewhat derogatory manner ("crawl back"), the public choose the MWC over the BE/BW in a 70% landslide. www.utsandiego.com/polls/2013/jan/what-should-san-diego-state-do-about-its-conferenc/results/I understand the 2/3+ of the members here that are football-centric will do their best to invalidate these results, but what can be taken from this is the public perception (i.e. outside the microcosm of this board) of the move to the BE/BW is not good. If the decision is to move to the BE/BW, Sterk et al, will have to market this decision better to the public, including local businesses/advertisers.

San Diego is, and always will be, a status quo town.
Probably the worst trait of an otherwise beautiful town.

It doesn't show how many people voted.

That was the UT poll with 100+ votes. Nice.
Now we are basing public perception on UT polls that have 100+ votes. It would be as invalid as saying that the AMesa Polls is public perception.
I am not football centric, I am Athletic and University centric - meaning I care more about the overall health than just one program.
But you knew the poll only had 135 respondents as of last night, but wanted to get your narrative out there. Cool.

% of psoters to this board who are season football ticket holders: 50 or so?
% of voters in that U-T poll who are season football ticket holders: 5 or so?

I wonder if the people who voted are your typical Aztec Mesa diehard fan or just some casual fan who doesn't know college sports as well? Here we voted about 75% for the BE after that article came out.

Well, I certainly hope the administration isn't making their decision based on a UT or an aztectalk "poll"

That settles things. Who did the UT poll pick as next coach of the Chargers?

Well, I certainly hope the administration isn't making their decision based on a UT or an aztectalk "poll" Neither. The decision will be based on the aztec stalk poll. Five votes there for the MWC and one for BE/BW. Presumably from Beetlejuice.

The goal is to get more new butts in the seats - more football season ticket holders. If the public is not buying into this move, they will not attend games. But on the flip side, the public isn't attending games now while we are in the MWC, so the whole move, in theory, would be status quo attendance-wise. Obviously, the poll has a small sample size. But the people that did vote were folks that read the article and cared enough to voice their opinion. I'm sure once the group here has at that poll, the results will be much different, though skewed.

I am not football centric, I am Athletic and University centric - meaning I care more about the overall health than just one program. Thanks for clarifying that. I've read your many posts referring to "T-shirt basketball fans" and thought you had more of an affinity towards football.

most fans will want what is best for the team -with the best winning % and that is currently the Basketball team, and most are afraid of moving into the BW. If the article would have talked more about the option of the Southwest Division of the BE, including Houston, SMU, Memphis maybe Cincy, or at least getting games with them here as OOC games, then the vote may have gone the other way,

Think of those who actually go to the website and are mostly to vote, then you start to see the outcome.
Those who voted will have stronger opinions on this issue than the ones who passed it up, which means they are more likely to be sports fans, which means they are more likely to watch and be influenced by espn.
My point is, the sample for s#!++y polls like this one will never be representative of any population.

Anyone in their right mind never makes any decision based on polls. They are for fan/reader participation and used to formulate public perception with intent to bias people. The presidential election exit polls are the prime example....all polls are for discussion and nothing more.

The "public" doesn't know what it wants. A person is smart. People are stupid. MIB

Our football program is toast if we stay in the MWC.
