Greedy? Did one of your business professors tell you to start low in negotiations, so you won't hurt their feelings?

Greedy? Did one of your business professors tell you to start low in negotiations, so you won't hurt their feelings? You mean the way the MWC did it?

It wouldnt have mattered how much the BE asked for, ESPN already had made it's move. To add insult to injury they lowballed the conference to remove any semblance of leverage the BE would have seemed to have had. ESPN can go talk a long walk off a short pier anytime as far as I'm concerned.

Aresco is my absolute idol if he really went for $300M. Granted he was never going to get it, but the fact he even threw that number out there means his balls are as big as Texas.
So when he "settles" as 1/3 of his asking price, $100M, the networks will think they got him over, but we'll all be happy beyond belief.
Its the classic, "you're only worth what you negociate"....never mind real life.

"Way to get greedy BE..." Are f====== kidding me. Have you ever negotiated a contract??? You don't start negotiations asking for your minimum, you start a lot higher. I think a lot of you don't have a clue how NCAA sports are financed. You think the State of California will just print more money and give it to the Aztecs. If we stay in the MWC, our football program is toast.

That's probably the reason why the figure was dismissed by ESPN, which allowed the exclusive negotiating window to expire".When I was contemplating retirement, I was offered a promotion to consider first. My response was triple my salary and you've got a deal. The difference is I had no intention of taking the job as I was a fart in the wind, (which would have really f*ked up my business plan if they had met my salary demands). Here, either Aresco was writing off ESPN or he truly is a certifiable idiot.

alright alright.. maybe not greedy.. wrong choice of words... but I never thought of highly overvaluing your product as a good negotiating tactic....
Hindsight is always 20/20, but one has to wonder if Aresco was more realistic with the value of the BE and a deal with ESPN had gotten done if all these schools would still be jumping ship..

You forgot to highlight a couple of things: 1) More than one BCS source said Aresco was LAUGHED out the room... 2) Likely to be 10x less than that value Ohhhh, and One more 3) The MWC is set to do what the Big East tried to do... Roll out 12 teams with an on campus championship game... MWC > BIG LEAST
