Coach, when you speak so highly of the Mountain West, and with all of the shakeups going on as far as colleges and conferences are concerned, is there a little bit of hope that San Diego State can stay in the conference? "I'm going to reserve making a deep comment on that. I voiced my feelings to administration. We've got a schedule in place - if we're not in the Mountain West - that will be as tough of a non-conference schedule as there is in the United States of America. We'll play a schedule, regardless where we are, that will allow us to be success and get kids to want to come here. So I'm not obsessing over that. We'll wind up in a league where we're there for a reason. And we will act accordingly, and I don't think our recruiting will miss a beat regardless what league we're in." goaztecs.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/010713aad.html

An admirable man by any measure. of course he's not going to say how he actually feels in a public presser. admirable indeed, being a team player for the brass

Fish understands the fiscal problems facing the department and worked to get the upgrade in OOC.

So you believe he's lying? "I'm going to reserve making a deep comment on that. I voiced my feelings to administration." ^^ I believe that. and they got him games with Memphis and Temple scribed into those schools' contracts; and they got him talking to cincy and uconn; and they got him dates open in the Jan Big West schedule to play Kansas; and they got him on ESPN to pursue other big games that would never happen on cbs college sports Thus spake Fish (and the brass listened)

Obviously he'd rather be in the MWC, but anyone that thinks he is going to retire just because of this is delusional.

Coach Fisher is a class act and we are very fortunate to have him coaching at SDSU. If Coach Coryell is the giant of the past, then Coach Fisher is the giant of today. We have witnessed him virtually single handedly resurrect SDSU athletics, and now we have come to see the other programs and coaches following his lead and developing winning programs -- just as he predicted and encouraged. One man can make a difference. A huge difference. Go Fish Go!

I'd only be worried if coach Fisher used his presser as an opportunity to voice his opinion publicly. Affirming the administration publicly tells me he feels heard, and that's ultimately best for the mens basketball program.

An admirable man by any measure. of course he's not going to say how he actually feels in a public presser. admirable indeed, being a team player for the brass I do agree with you that Fish would only be a team player and not say anything negative about the move to the BW. However, I also believe the following to be true... 1) If he believe a move to the BW would ruin the hoops program he worked so hard to build, SDSU would not have considered the move in the first place. Yes, I do think he has that much pull. 2) If he was absolutely against the move and the administration did not listen to him, he would still be a team player but his very good friend Bill Freider would have been loud and clear about how bad the move was. (When the move was first made the press asked Coach Freider about it and he said he felt it was not an issue - SDSU hoops would be just fine because of what Coach Fisher has built.) I think Fisher knows the BW is not an ideal situation for hoops but understands why the administration has to make a move and that, ultimately, the program will be better because of the move. (That is assuming SDSU ends up in the BE/BW, which obviously is debatable at this point.)

I think Fisher should coach all of the non conference games next year and make Dutcher coach the BW conference away games to get his feet wet.

Bland on the radio today said he felt the SDSU brand has reached a point where conference affiliation doesn't matter. He said the SDSU brand is like Gonzaga in the WCC and UNLV in the BW. It won't stop the train.

It won't stop the train. honest question - if bland and fish hated the move as much as i do, do you seriously think they would express that opinion to anyone in public? do you really think, in the middle of recruiting battles where opposing coaches are throwing out the BW every chance they get, that T Bland is going to go on a radio show and say, "ya know, this sucks di**. we're probably fuc**ed." ??

They would just say, we don't worry about that's stuff, etc... He told an in depth anecdote about our brand being strong enough to handle it. Don't assume that they hate this move as much as you do.
