Threads like this make me wonder what would be worse... Having to read 'I told you so' threads started by azteccc next year if SDSU (in the BW) has no good wins in the OOC games and then gets a 12 seed in the tourney. or Having to read "I told you so' threads started by someone else in a few years if SDSU (remaining in the MW) can't keep the athletic department afloat, drops several sports, and hoops end up in the BW anyway. I wonder.... Maybe when we win the MWC this year and get a 7 seed back east the point will be made that no one gives a flying F about this conf.

Big West gives us a better tv deal for bball and good OOC games. Weaker yes but not the end of the world. A few decent teams with UCSB,CSULB, Hawaii, UC Irvine, Cal Poly but the rest are garbage. 84 UCSB 135 LBSU 237 Hawaii 169 Irvine 181 Cal Poly I get your bitterness. But its only temporary.

SDSU's OOC will balance it out. If they win. This year the Aztecs lost their best two OOC games, playing in the MWC still gives them a chance at a decent seed should they win it. If this were next year in the same circumstance winning the conference gets us a 12 seed, just like LBSU last year. It is always unfortunate to go down in our level of competition in any sport. My understanding is that the BW is lateral or an upgrade in all sports except BBall. I share your concern that it may hurt our bb program, but Coach Fisher has said that he can continue building a successful program in the BW, so I will take him at his word. Certainly the BW has advantages in TV money, travel costs, and competition in sports like baseball. Our seed in the BB tournament is the least of my concerns. If I understand the seeding of the round of 64 correctly, the 12th seed plays the 5th seed. Whoever wins has the same route to the final four. If we can't beat the 5th seed then we aren't going to go very far anyways. I'm glad that we have so many passionate bball fans, t-shirt or not. I'd sure like to see 50,000 passionate, t-shirt fb fans, fill "the Murph".

I wonder.... Maybe when we win the MWC this year and get a 7 seed back east the point will be made that no one gives a flying F about this conf. Except that won't happen. On the basketball side the trajectory is actually headed up. Last year NM was a 5 out west, UNLV and SDSU were 6's, and the conference got a fourth team in. Seeds 13-16 are reserved for the one bid conferences, so even though CSU was an 11 it was one spot above the traditional last team in 12 seeds. The year before that the regular season winner BYU was a 3, and the tourney winner SDSU was a 2 out west. And UNLV was a 8 I believe. As i'm sure you know the seeds 1-4 are geographically protected, those teams have the respect of somebody, namely the selection committee. Three years ago regular season winner NM was a 3 seed. It was also a four bid year with SDSU, UNLV and BYU dancing. The winner of the conference this year will again be a top four seed because their RPI, SOS and wins against top 25, 50 and 100 RPI teams will be impossible to ignore. The only exception will be if the regular season is such a blood bath that the winner has 6 regular season losses. Highly unlikely. The national bloggers, like Katz give this conference a lot respect, to say no gives a flying eff about this conference is fairly easy to refute.

And I will concede the tourney is about matchups as we learned last year against 11 seed NC St. What makes seeding important is theoretically and as history as shown the higher the seed the more likely you are to get through the first couple of rounds. We saw this two years, when the AZtecs made the Sweet 16. It's the long term effects of being in that conference that are unknown. Will it hurt recruiting? If that happens what toll does it take on the program and its relevance? We know the conference games will be $#!+.

There's a reason the conference's RPI was projected to climb to 13th with the addition of us and Boise and the MWC was projected to fall to 8th (though I don't know what the revised impact would be with just us making the move without Tatertrucker U).

Those numbers are also the result of poor performances in OOC scheduling. BW began conference play ranked 16th but it will probably slide out of the teens as we move along and play each other. Northridge was the only team who ended with a winning record and I'd say their best win was at Utah. Hawaii was .500 with no quality wins. I won't even get into UC Riverside or UC Davis. - Pacific had a decent schedule and had the best wins with Xavier and St. Mary's. - Us and Long Beach had strong schedules but nothing to show for it. - Cal Poly was poor in nonconference play, although they did win at UCLA. - UCI had a chance to do something special but did not finish off UCLA, Southern Miss or Sam Houston State. While Nevada and USC are nice wins, they are not enough.

I think that applies to all games, Nope. Lose important OOC games while in the MWC, and you can come back with statement wins in the MWC to redeem yourself. Lose OOC games while in the BW, and you're stuck, because winning games in the BW won't provide nearly as much of a statement than winning big MWC games.

The t shirt fan thing is stupid. Maybe if the football side had t shirt fans thre would be more than 25k at the game. We need new fans at the foootball games. Stop acting like johnny come lately fans are such a bad thing. Johnny come latelys only care about what they came lately for. The rest of us care aout everything. Maybe if football didn't have to prop up basketball for like, ever, basketball would have more pull in this decision...
