I know I'm not as knowledgeable on the topic as most here, and I don't know if this is still a viable option, but can we just go independent for now and would it be a good thing?
When we first decided to go to the BE I thought it was a bad move; we were jumping on a ship that some were already fleeing and it looked as more would (and they did). Now its just a shell of a conference that though may have a big boys name is really nothing more than the scrap yard for the big 5 (ie not really a power conf anymore).
The MW has some of fun rivalries, but has diluted itself from what was already a second tier conference. It at best is remaining stagnant.
Its as if wither is accepting a move to purgatory (and one which we'd be pigeon holed in). So if our number one goal is to step up to a better conference would going indy be the best way to go?

That is one thought out analysis. Convinced me.

Never believed indy was an option (still don't) but just for kicks...
Word is that the big12 gave us a really close look (saw some value), but in the end decided to head east. Other word is that the big12 does not see a need to expand unless the incoming teams bring more dollars than the take.
What if we signed a scheduling agreement with the big12 - give us a semi-conference schedule (maybe 6/8 games in Oct, Nov). they would get all the benefit of having us in the big12 for nothing other than a schedule. We would then have to convince 2/4 more schools that there is value in playing every other year in SD (maybe the northern pac schools when they're not playing at sc/ucla)... If this could happen, a network would be buying our schedule more so than us.
hey, crazier things have (been) happened(ing)

We are not going Indy. End of thread. Let's not diss the OP. I once thought going indy for a brief period might be a temp option although I now agree with you it isn't. Nor are there any roomers that SDSU is considering doing so.

The MW has some of fun rivalries No offense, but can you name one? I can't, at least not in football. I'd rather go indy and develop our own brand---even at a temporary loss---than stay in this DIAA Cal State/Rocky Mountain league. Hopefully our president and AD are too ambitious to let either thing happen anyway. But to answer your question, yes, I think it's doable. I still think of Fresno as a rival and hoped it would be rekindled on a football level. I guess its an old rivlary from the WAC days, and with Pat Hill gone Fresno doesnt have the same cache as it did a few years back. On a personal level I had family that went to CSU so that one was always fun for me. But I guess Im once again showing my age thinking that they could be a player on a bigger scene like they were with Lubbick

We are not going Indy. End of thread. 1. You're not answering the question posted at the top of the thread. 2. Only moderators can "end" a thread. LOL!

CFB will implode sooner than you think. Indy is not a way out option.

It is an option. Not a very good one, but it is. It's definitely preferable to the MWC though.

Let's face it, we don't even have a strong football fanbase in Southern California.

I'd rather go Indy than to rejoin the MWC.
