Looks like it...could be interesting for a program that has been very successful with transfers. I know 40% of players transfer by end of sophomore year. Link

So LMU recruits a kid and he blows up after one year and now can freely jump to Cal. Kansas runs out of scholarships so they place a kid for one year at Nevada to develop but then to transfer the following year.
I like the rule of not sitting out but it should only be if your coach leaves or your school switches conferences.

I guess if you are unhappy playing up in LA you can run off to SDSU if your grades are good!

Would benefit SDSU but is a terrible idea.

The last transfer we picked up from LMU turned out pretty well I agree with you - if coaches can move freely and begin right away at their new schools, players should have the same right.

Yeesh. The free agency era has hit college sports.

First of all I don't see how this could just be restricted to basketball. But given our destination location and atmosphere I think we'd benefit from this type of rule greatly. With that being said, I can't see something like this going down as it would create mass chaos in college sports unlike anything we've ever seen.

"There is a very strong possibility that the structure and legislation for players transferring in college basketball -- and all NCAA-sanctioned sports-- could change in the coming months."
This is not just Basketball, it would affect football also.

Not a very well thought out plan. Smaller schools will become feeder schools for big programs. I guess the rich get richer.

The one rule change I would like to see change is the shot clock. 28 second seems enough time for me to draw out a set vs 35 seconds. I also would like to see the nba rule where the shot clock doesn't reset to 35 seconds after a kick ball, dead ball, or a foul if the shot clock is under 14 seconds.

I too would like to see the shot clock lowered to at worst 30.

I've been wanting this for years. 35 seconds is overkill. Especially against these teams who are inferior and want to drag out the play to lighten the blow. Talk about boring basketball.

A star kid goes to a big school and doesn't get playing time and a chance to show skills early they can play immediately somewhere else.

I wanted to punch myself in the head as Indiana State 4 cornered the game before the aztecs in the xmas tournament into overtime.

I didn't read the whole article---did it identify any BCS schools as being behind it? I would think its because coaches can block kids from transfering to specfic schools - such as schools within the same conference. That make sense, but still think they should be required to sit out a year - not sure about losing a year of eligability though

Wyoming is f**ked if this deal becomes reality. 90% of the MWC is f**ked as well. This would change college sports as we know it. I think we'd benefit greatly from this despite the occasional player leaving for blue blood programs in both major sports.
Think of it this way, in the last 10 years has SDSU seen any players leave the program to go to a "better" school ? None that I can recall other than maybe a LB that went to Oregon State after going to a juco first. Once people are here they typically don't leave unless they flunk out or are bad apples. Kevin Craft went juco first and his dad just got fired so I'm not sure I'd count that one.
Now, how many times has SDSU gotten transfers from worse schools looking to attend a better situation? Malcolm Thomas, Tyrone Shelley, Kassim Osgood, James Rahon plus a dozen more I'm not thinking of.
How many times have we gotten transfers from "Big Time" programs? More than I could name if you gave me an hour to do so.
Every football/basketball program located in a depressing city/town would be at risk of losing talent that is unhappy with playing time or their role on the team. Kids that want to tell their friends they are going to a Pac-12 or Big-12 program out of high school quickly lose their love for the power conferences once they look at the depth chart and settle into the crappy town they are going to call home for the next 5 years of their life.
Thinking about this rule further I actually think this would be a game changer for us. It would be terrible for college sports but would be fan-freakin’-tastic for SDSU.

This is some of the best news for SDSU that I have heard in sometime. USC has 2 RSF and 1 SO QB that are rated as 5.9 or higher and a 2013 commit at 6.0... They also have 2 5.9 SO and 2 5.7 RSF RB's... I got to believe that if this rule were in place now SDSU could pick up several big time players every year.
