The new deal does not lengthen the agreement -- which expires with the 2015-16 academic year -- but allows the MWC more leeway in earning power. CBS will continue as the primary rightsholder and have priority picks but the Mountain West will have the right to sell packages of games to two additional networks. The number of priority picks is not known. After that, the new rightsholder and CBS will alternate picks when selecting games. The MWC restructuring was a result of CBS shutting down the The Mtn. Network. The conference-centric network shut down on May 31. The restructuring apparently is a “make good” to the conference after the network folded, according to a source. So as I read this, CBS continues to pay 8 mil but the conference can now sell the other inventory. So CBS 1st tier and then splits the 2nd and tier 3 rights. I don't see how this gets them back to more than $12M per year in media rights. Figure he tv schedule goes just like this year with the majority of the tier1 games being BSU, sdsu, Fresno, Nevada, and Hawaii. You are left with the front range games, is that going to break the bank? I don't think so, this all adds up to blah. Jmo. "The 10-team MWC has three years left on a deal with CBS that pays it $12 million per season." That was reduced to $8M from $12 last year.

Do they just take pulses at UNLV and then handout degrees?

I predicted that CBS would make a move to keep TV of a stronger conference and not have to risk seeing their conference weaken. It got a lot of cheap shots. It seems these boards 10 years ago were more serious about content of sports and no one up man ship.

So if Boise and SDSU return to the MWC, the new tv deal would only be for two years and then renegotiated again in 2016. However, the MWC could be facing the same problem as the BEast in negotiating a deal at that time because of continuing realignment which is not about to come to an end anytime soon.

Based on Boise announcing tomorrow that they are coming back? I don't actually know that but Kustra and Thompson are both in Vegas and there are "indications" per a couple of writers that Kustra will make an announcement tomorrow. Yoda out... .
