Well $#!+. SDSU might as well ask USC and UCLA to break off and start a new league. You know the MWC is awful when Colorado State and New Mexico are trying to leave. ..Sent from my GS3..

"But, but... the MWC is stable and will come up with a new tv contract that dwarfs the nBE deal!"
Even if it's just a rumor that UNM and CSU have other ideas, that could take the air out of the MWC's confidence balloon.

This would not be good news. BSU doesn't need SDSU to make any move. I still think SDSU tags along whereever Boise State goes and since we helped them get into the Big West, they'll pay us back. Also, don't forget that SDSU has one of the biggest markets out there (not already in the Big 5 conferences), a Football Team that has finished 9-4, 8-5, 9-4 the last 3 years and a Basketball team that has been ranked the last 3 seasons...we will be asked to join whatever Boise State has in mind. I agree that if we asked, Boise would force the MWC to take us back. My concern is Sterk appears to be full steam ahead with the Big East, even if Boise goes back to the MWC. I'm not down with that!

I wouldn't mind staying in the Big East. I would rather stay in the MWC because I hate to see our basketball program get downgraded. That said, as I posted in the other thread....the current SDSU Football Home schedule as currently constructed for next year: Eastern Illinois, Oregon State, Boise State, Cincinnati, SMU, Temple is the best one I can remember in a long time.

It is a very good schedule compared to the past 10 years. Although I'm afraid we'll end up with 5 or 6 losses.

I'm bumping this thread back to the top since the article you link above is excellent. Better than the one you used to start the thread about SDSU maybe staying in the MWC. (BTW, we can't "return" to a conference we haven't left yet most keep saying "return.") The main reason I like the SI article is it points out what an idiot Aresco has been. I've thought for a long time that Craig Thompson was a doofus but Aresco's handling of the Tulane/ECU addition was just miserable. So miserable that I've heard from two folks who at least to my knowledge don't even know each other that Hirshman was very pissed off about the way it went down. So I don't care what Sterk may have said about being fully committed to the BE, I don't believe that for a second. Instead, SDSU is going to do what it believes is in its best interest and if that's rescinding the acceptance the offer to join the BE, that's what we're going to do.

(BTW, we can't "return" to a conference we haven't left yet most keep saying "return.") Are you sure of that? Right or wrong, my recollection is that SDSU formally resigned from the conference early on in this process. I say that because Boise didn't -- until just before the June 31 deadline. They held off because something happens once you give notice. I was under the impression that, once you've resigned, it is irrevocable. I believe that you both, technically, have to be re-invited to join the conference. Anybody got a link that clarifies that? Yoda out... .

I tend to think 1 yr in the Big East with an auto BCS bid is a good thing. Play one year then move.

You don't want a western conference with Colorado State, New Mexico, Wyoming, San Jose State, Utah State... anybody else? You don't want your Olympic sports in the Big West and football in a conference with former Conference USA teams. So... you just want a league with Fresno, UNLV, Boise and You need a few more than that.

I don't see any way Aresco can put together a tv deal with all the moving parts including Cincy and UConn ready to leave at a moment's notice. And since Cincinnati and UConn represent the majority of the remaining schools in the BEast, they control the destiny of the conference until June 30, 2013. Correct me if I'm wrong but UConn and Cincy could vote to dissolve the BEast depending on how the seven basketball schools decide to exit the conference. Unless Aresco can prove he can get all the new BEast schools to commit to a long-term deal I have serious doubts any tv network is even going to make an offer let alone an offer of any serious $$$$.
