I guess this is big enough for it's own thread
Pete Thamel @sipetethamel
Three sources told me today that Boise's depature from the Big East is inevitable. “I would be shocked if it didn’t happen.”

Damn, beat me to it. In a word this can be describe as "Bad"
or...if the Big East lose Boise State, SDSU can leave the Big East with no exit fee and go crawling back to the MWC (which may be Good).

This doesnt specify whether they would leave after one year or before 2013...

This doesnt specify whether they would leave after one year or before 2013... Can't image they play in the Big East for one season (and Big West for all other Sports) and then go back to MWC. Has anyone seen if the MWC has annouceds the football schedule for next season? Seems like that would be tough thing to change at this point.

Going back to MWC would be a crippling blow for SDSU unless BYU somehow comes back, considering I don't see the latter happening this is terrible news.

This would not be good news. BSU doesn't need SDSU to make any move.

Brian Murphyþ@murphsturph
Before Boise State joined Big East, it commissioned a study on its options. Forming own league was No. 2 option behind joining Big East.

This would not be good news. BSU doesn't need SDSU to make any move. I still think SDSU tags along whereever Boise State goes and since we helped them get into the Big West, they'll pay us back. Also, don't forget that SDSU has one of the biggest markets out there (not already in the Big 5 conferences), a Football Team that has finished 9-4, 8-5, 9-4 the last 3 years and a Basketball team that has been ranked the last 3 seasons...we will be asked to join whatever Boise State has in mind.

I'm sure Boise State didn't have those two at the top of their list, maybe somewhere in the 'need to fill out the league' portion. I think those two are trying to use some old buddy leverage to save themselves since they know the MWC dies if Boise, BYU, SDSU, Fresno, UNLV all go to Big East - West Division for all sports.

The name of the game is football money from TV , BCS Bowls . CSU and NM have done fairly well in Basketball the last few years but look at their football teams and TV markets. BSU was not really helped by belonging to the MW this year , so do you think going back there would help going forward.

Any headline that says "Boise State is going to..." should have a sub-headline of "and SDSU will do the same."

Boise reneging on the BE would get them out of at least $2.75 million of payment to the BW:
- BW entry fee is $2.5 million (spread out over five years at $500,000 annually; BE agreed to pay $2 million of this).
- exit fee starts at $1.5 million if they leave in 2014, then drops incrementally to as low as $250,000 for an exit after 2019.
- $770,000 annually in travel subs; BE agreed to cover half of the amount in their first two years.
