That can't be too good for your RPI or SOS

I think UCI is the only BW team with a winning record vs the MWC this year. Wins over Fresno and Nevada. Lost to UNLV.
Only a missed free throw at the end vs UCLA kept them from going 4-1 ooc against your common opponents. They might be on the rise next year.

That can't be too good for your RPI or SOS UCSB needs to concern themselves with such things like RPI or SOS. After we play (and I think beat) Arizona, UNLV, New Mexico, and Boise St our RPI will be fine. RPI and SOS are for bubble teams, something we are not this year

okay sorry, maybe 'bad name' was too harsh. you're like the little brother jumping up and down saying "look at me ! look at me !" and occasionally someone will look down at you and say, "aww, that's cool". but the longer you do it, the more F'ing annoying you are to everyone in the room. i ain't saying look at me. rather, it's for your future conference mate UC Irvine. big difference.

They beat a couple struggling bottom feeders of the MWC. UNLV ripped 'em from the beginning.
Good win for them against USC, but USC is pretty bad. UCI is a solid team and has a chance to make a run towards a Big West title since everyone seems to be down from last year.
I'll root for them solely for RPI sake though.
Oh yeah JD..... How is Fullerton playing? Have you seen 'em? A guy I work with has a son playing for them. Brandon. Statistics wise he's doing pretty well for a freshman.

I have not seen Fullerton play. Even though I grew up 10 minutes away from them, I've only been in Titan Gym once.

UC Irvine got their revenge against Eric Wise for transferring!

The RPI effect this will have on us is incredibly minute. If we started a thread every time USC loses a game this season, there would be more USC threads than ticket selling threads.

This win just shows what a great power conference we are getting into. I am so glad we landed a spot in the Big West.

Uh, you started this thread with "That can't be too good for your RPI or SOS" and a smiley face (happy guy that you are about the outcome). How is that about our future conference mate? It seems that you were saying that USC is a s#!++y team, USC being the common denominator here. I don't know, I usually give benefit of the doubt, so I guess I missed your subtlety. I'm sure it was meant in the best possible way. I'll say it again, why would anybody spend time and energy contributing to a forum for a team that they are not a fan of? Last thing on my mind is to mosey on over to the UNLV or UNM forums, and definitely not the UCSB forum. Maybe UCSB doesn't have a forum?

50% of RPI is your opponent's combined W/L records. Considering we play 30 teams who will each play ~30 games, that means 50% of our RPI is based on 900 games. That means that this loss is 1 of 900 games that affects half of our RPI. That means this game will account for ~ 50% * 1/900 (0.05%) of our end-of-the-year RPI. tl;dr: who cares? Yes. About .0005 RPI points. Last year we were #27 in RPI. On more win by an opponent would add .0005 points and move us above New Mexico to #26. One more loss by an opponent would subtract .0005 points and move us below Saint Mary's to #28.

Our RPI would have been tremendous if we could have beaten Syracuse in a wind storm, but it should be fine after spanking UCLA, Arizona (if they even make the final in Hawaii), UNLV and New Mexico among others.
Oh wait, actually it is UCSB dragging down our RPI, they blow.

back off you guys, guacho is a pretty good contributor around here ...better than joketec and several of our "fans" I knew what kind of responses awaited me when I mentioned RPI and SOS. It's a give and take with my extended family of Aztecs. Thanks for the support. I like the Mesa and am glad someone thinks I'm a good contributor

Oh wait, actually it is UCSB dragging down our RPI, they blow. As far as dragging your RPI down, that ain't happening (yet). Mid January, that might be a different story but right now we are 52/53 with the #2 or #3 SOS. Rebuilding year for us, one of the youngest teams in the country. You saw we have some pieces to build around. We're taking our lumps now but we'll be back.

Anybody have any clue why we haven't played UCI since '97? Considering their close proximity & conference affiliation they would seem like logical OOC opponents the last 15 years. Maybe some bad blood from the DJ Gay poaching???
