Going on right now in downtown Gaslamp District. Come on down and support the Aztecs and enjoy the festivities.

We were there. Had a great time. Both bands sounded great! byu band played more of a holiday song selection while SDSU band played more of a rihanna/bruno mars repertoire.
Along with Aztec cheer, the fire baton twirlers drew lot's cheer.
It looked like the radio station was doing their show down there while residents checked out the action from their balconies. Great to see SDSU representing in it's home town.
My bro and I were talking how it would be nice if State did an evening pep rally in the gaslamp prior to kicking off the football season next year. food for thought...

Better even if they had them on campus!

Something like this a few days before the Season opener would be great! Followed by an AZTECS radio show or some sort of meet & greet at one of the sports bars would be awesome fun and great visibility for the program.

I think that'd be a win-win all the way around. From what I saw last night it was actually in line with the Holiday season feel of things. The local businesses were buzzin' with activity, which is to say more than usual. The whole thing was a success...had a blast with out of town friends, so much so that they were very impressed with the city. At one point a friend turned to me and remarked, " You know, I'm really liking SDSU. The kids seem to be more, I don't know - fun."

It is THESE kind of fun, pageantry type of events that only SDSU can get away with that professional teams like the Chargers can't. AZTECS may not have the huge budgets to advertise or market, but what they do have can be used to gain more attention in and thru-ought this community. It really was the first time i've ever seen a big SDSU presence in the most lively, visible area in San Diego-the Gaslamp.

It was like a sea of black and red where we were at. You brought up a great point and I think this is one great way to market SDSU. I know one thing, one of my friends teen-agers want to attend SDSU. This event was the clincher as they had been researching colleges and SDSU was on their top three. They loved the enthusiasm and general school spirit the Aztec students exuded.

Totally agree , a Mardi Gras West in the Gas Lamp- Azteca Style. Would be a great tradition to start for Friday Night Lights. Get the restaurants /hotels to sponsor. Or get Fox Sports San Diego to have the event roll all the way to the Fox Sports Grill at the Hilton Bayfront- with park area.It could be another high light for recruits.

Mardi Gras type of feel would be very cool. Here is a small video of what the crowd/blocked off streets looked like.
