This will be the biggest crowd in SDSU history. What's your guess? If it's in the 40,000's, no way is this the biggest crowd in SDSU history. I sat in a sold out Jack Murphy for the '91 game against BYU. I forget how many The Murph sat back then (the Super Bowl expansion and Qualcomm re-name occurred about '96 or so), but it was well over 50,000. Wikipedia says 60,750 capacity ( corrected). Even with Skyshow games, my guess is that 60,750 butts in the seats is the Aztec record. That said, I think my guess in another thread was 44,500 for this game. I'll stick with that.

It sounds like it's going to be around 45,000. Which to me is disappointing. But hey I'm not going so I can't throw stones.

"They" seem to constantly switch between counting butts in the seats and tickets distributed. For that '91 BYU game, I distinctly remember a sign at the ticket window celebrating the fact that there were "No Tickets Left. WE PACKED THE MURPH!" Yet, your chart shows the official count as 4,000 less than packed for that era of the stadium. Anyway, tall order getting it up that high for a 7-5 team in the still-young P-Bowl, BYU or not.

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask it here ... The lot opens at 11:00am on Thursday, correct?
Thanks in advance.

I think the practice of juicing up attendance numbers and declaring "sell outs" goes way further back than most people would like to admit. My guess is that the game on Thursday is going to look a lot like the Charger game. Announced 53k, seated 45k. I'm really interested to see how the Poinsettia Bowl compares to the Music City bowl. Very similar circumstances for the "home" teams.

I can assure you that SDSU counts tickets just like any professional sports organization and has so since at the very least the late 80's. They count tickets distributed - including comps - and not actual butts in the seats. EVERY professional sports organization counts tickets distributed. I know because I was a finance officer for a professional sports team (i.e. NFL, NBA, or MLB) and the league mandated that attendance figures for each team be calculated as tickets distributed.

Will they lower the price of tickets more on game day to pack the stadium?

They're figuring that some BYU ticket-holders won't show up and the cold temps will keep some locals from coming, and are hoping for 40,000 in-house, probably tops.

Yet, your chart shows the official count as 4,000 less than packed for that era of the stadium. Yeah, they now simply count tix distributed. Previously, they counted tickets sold. And it wasn't really that accurate -- more of an estimate. Additionally, I'm pretty sure that they didn't really have an accurate count of student tickets. I attended the '79 BYU/SDSU game that was nationally televised between a 10-0 BYU and 8-2 SDSU. There were no tickets left to that game and the stadium was definitely packed. Not a seat in the house. 60k, easy. But I believe the official stats say there were around 52k at that game.

My source (a director for the company that is contracted by SDSU to manage their facilities) said he expects about 45K tix purchased in advance and about 5K walkups, weather complying.

"This is a catastrophe for us if it happens."
Depends on early expectations and who really shows up. If most of the fans are in red and black less than a week before Christmas, we'll be okay.

My source is hoping for that, too. Thinking they won't get there.
