For those of you in San Diego, Great Oldies Radio Program.
When I was working my way through high school in Escondido in the early 1960's, my generation had the opportunity to listen and watch as the greatest revolution in music unfolded before us. We had the Beatles and the Dave Clark Five and the Rolling Stones and even before them, the Drifters and the Platters and many Doo Wop groups that played fun music. Our Radio station of choice in the San Diego area was KCBQ the Mighty 11-7 (1170 on the AM radio dial.)
1170 became a right wing talk show station years ago. (Sacrilege!) Yet, just last Saturday evening my college age son and I were listening to the radio when he happened to turn past an old Doo Wop song that I immediately remembered and I said, "Hey turn back to that!"
We had happened upon the very first program that was designed to take us back to that beautiful era in older songs on the station that always used to play them, KCBQ. I guess KBCQ was repenting their sins.
The program was Saturday Night Sock Hop with "Mike Z" as host. It was on from Nine until Eleven PM and was billed as "The BEST TWO HOURS OF RADIO ON THE PLANET!"
I do not know Mike Z, but I feel compelled to let people know that he knows his stuff and the program is a good one. It was the best two hours of radio on the Planet as far as I am concerned. If you are in the area, listen in. Even if you are young. You can learn a lot because he tells a lot of music history between the songs.

I have nothing to do with the show. I just liked it, so decided to pass info about it along. Tell others about it. Hell, we might get KCBQ to change their programing to Late Fifties and Early Sixties music. I would have it on all day long if they did.

Sorry, but I still remember listening to KPRI after midnight back in the '60s and it's still the best radio station on the air.
