Hi everyone,
I know a lot has been said about the new bowl playoff system. I understand there are 6 bowls and what not but what I don't understand is if once the teams that will be playing them are known, will they eliminate each other until one is standing or is a NC game already determined? And what would SDSU need to do to be included in those playoff games maybe be its a dumb question but I'm not very clear as to how it will work. Any info greatly appreciated.

The playoff format is convoluted. Explaining it can be difficult. But in its simplest form: Teams can vie for four playoff spots, which leads to a stand-alone national championship game, and the other eight guaranteed access points are just really expensive bowl games -- sort of like the BCS.
Those games are either contract bowls (the SEC vs. Big 12 Sugar Bowl, the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Rose Bowl, the ACC vs. SEC/Big Ten/Notre Dame) or "host" bowls. The Chick-Fil-A, Cotton, Fiesta or Capital One bowls are prime candidates for those host bowls. All six of the bowls will rotate into the semifinals over a 12-year span.www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/jeremy-fowler/20955765/smaller-conferences-layoff-format-looking-a-lot-like-bcs-for-smaller-conferences

Thanks RockNfish, So just 2 playoff games that lead to the NC game. Gotcha. I thought there would be 12 teams (6 bowls) and then elimination games, just like any other playoff. So if SDSU wins the Big East, they may be playing in one of the playoff bowls. What I'm asking is are the 2 playoff bowls "open" to the top 4 teams no matter which conference they belong to?
