So with SDSU in the "Big East West" Division it would only be fitting if in basketball we were in the "Big West East" Division...

Looks like BSU/SDSU will decide the BE West division next year.

Looks like BSU/SDSU will decide the BE West division next year. And IF we can beat them again, we'd be playing a championship game for a chance at a BCS game - wow.

If we can get through OOC 3-1 and then win the West we'd certainly have a shot. Keep in mind though, we still may end up going to L'Ville, CIncy and/or Rutgers for cross-division games. And those games would be brutal.

OOC doesnt matter for next year anyway. but yes I forgot about the cross-divisional match ups. They'll probablly do those in a zipper format? UL or UC / USF or UCF / Rut or Conn - I would think anyway.

Hot damn did we get lucky. It should be a 2-team race for first in the West, In 2013. No way Houston and Memphis will continue to be as bad as they now are. SMU? There's a real problem there. They spend $2M per year on an established HC yet are still nothing more than decent. Just a guess but it seems to have something to do with a lack of fan support. SDSU may have lost a decade worth of potential alumni football fans but the death penalty seems to have cost SMU two decades worth of fans. Those who are left aren't very happy with June Jones and he almost left last December. If Jones leaves after this season, SMU could have a really tough time hiring a good replacement.

The Big East West is about the same quality as the current MW. I would definitely say there are fewer cake-walks. Houston and SMU might not be having great years, but they have typically been on the same level as a Fresno or Nevada the past few years.

However, Dingwell has played pretty well and the experience he's getting - which he would not have gotten if Katz had remained healthy - is going to be invaluable next year. That in combination with the recent significant improvement in both lines makes me think we might actually have an outside shot at it.

there is no BCS next year, but still nice thought. Yes, there is. Yep, one more year under the old BCS format. Thus, the Big East still has an auto-bid next year. Would be epic if we could take it!! Definitely not out of the realm of possibilities. We should be even better next year.

I think it is too early to decide the cross divisional games. If the 14th team is Air Force, their game would be against Navy because they play every year. If it's BYU, I would be fine with our rival being BSU, but many Aztecs would want BYU. Lastly, if by some chance, it was UNLV or CSUFresno, they would be our rival. I just think it's a little too early to throw out who the cross divisional games would be without knowing all the teams.

Is there any possibility for Aztec basketball to join the Big East and all the other Oly Sports to remain in the BW? Has there been any other situation were such an arrangement has been made with a league? I am assuming this is very doubtful, but I want our basketball team in a power league asap.

Next year is going to be fun. I hope we get Boise last for rivalry week. If it comes down to that game to rep the west...ya the rivalry will be going.
