Comcast/NBC wants to expand its college sports portfolio. They want a bigger slice of the pie from ESPN so they're going to be aggressive. Once they get a hold of a league like the Big East and show the rest of FBS what they can do, they can lure other leagues to sign with them after their contracts with ESPN expires.
Perhaps this musical chair is never going to end. If money is what dictates the conference realignments, I can imagine schools jumping from one league to another depending on who can offer them the most money.

Then why doesn't Comcast begin with the MWC? Hell they're half owners. MWC basketball has national identity, but instead they're going to let it wither away. Stupid.

Because there are more TV sets in the top two BE markets than in the entire states of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Nevada combined. 'Nuff said.

What a difference, lets hope they can turn it into $$$. I like the sound of those tweets, but still wondering who "they" are?

Has ESPN already locked up the playoffs? You would think if NBC really wants to get into the game they would go big after them - like fox did with the NFL, even lost money initially but needed to establish themselvs as a real network.

ESPN has upped their offer for the 4 team playoff to over $600m/year, according to some sources.
SEC is also looking to redo their deal with CBS and ESPN after adding A&M and Mizzou.
At some point you have to wonder how big ESPN's check book really is, and if they really want to open it up for a third to time to appease the BE.

The BE began negotiations on a TV contract extension with ESPN more than two months ago and ESPN's "exclusive" opportunity to negotiate with the BE is about to expire. Personally, I'm getting more and more concerned that the BE isn't run all that much more efficiently than the MWC. Yeah, it gets a lot more money for its TV deal, but I think that has more to do with having members in major metro areas rather than the likes of Laramie.
Stop talking, BE, and SHOW ME THE MONEY.

ESPN was bidding against itself, so no reason to go too high. I'm sure their offer will increase if another network makes a large play.

Whoever signs with the BE---I'm still convinced---will give us a big payday. I would be surprised if it's less that $10 million per year to the football only schools.

your Big West/Big Lots conference mates have a stake in this too. I hope it's a good deal for the big east.

NBC CBS had us for little money. They could have spent money to save the Mountain from exploding. Now they have to pay us real money. They cover our games and know us better then ESPN. They just watched us beat Boise. We need to keep winning. Now the Big East has value in Calif. May be our fan's will figure this out. They are hurting us.
