It appears to be 99% certain that SDSU will either play in the Maaco Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday, Dec 22 (1PM) or the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl on Thursday Dec 20 (5PM).
The Poinsettia Bowl would feature BYU against SDSU, where as the Las Vegas Bowl would pit SDSU against the 5th selection of a Pac-12 Team. (Stewart Mandel predicts Stanford, Jerry Palm predicts Washington, ESPN predicts UCLA & Stanford)

I think it is clearly better for SDSU to play in the Poinsettia bowl, save money and beat BYU. Second choice is beating a Pac 12 school in Vegas, third choice is losing to a Pac12 school in Vegas.

I'd have to say its all but locked up we play in Poinsettia vs BYU. Too bad San Jose & Fresno might actually play each other in a bowl game? Definitely think despite losing to both of them, we come out on top in the bowl lineup if the byu matchup comes thru.

Vegas or New Mexico for the follwing reasons:
1. Those are on Saturday, which means I don't have to request an additional day off.
3. Easier to travel to Saturday games, therefore more non-San Diego resident Aztec fans can be in attendance .
2. The match-up will be against a PAC 12 foe.

Heh...I think it's better for SDSU to play in the Vegas Bowl. Mainly because it shows that SDSU will travel to non-San Diego Sites to watch SDSU play football. It may help us next year if some random bowl (Beef O'Brady's) has to select between a 7-5 SDSU & 7-5 SMU...

Everything I hear makes me believe regardless of what happens for the rest of the year (good or bad) we're playing in the Poinsettia Bowl. Which I am perfectly fine with.
But I still would have preferred Vegas, just for the chance to go to Vegas and for the elevated (albeit slight) status of the bowl it self.

Hands down the best scenario would be the Poinsettia Bowl. This bowl would attract at least 50,000 people to the Q if not a sellout (optimistic fan in me speaking). It would actually create a buzz in our community and give San Diego an opportunity to see that Aztec football can be just as good an atmosphere (probably even better) as the Chargers... certainly more affordable and family friendly. SDSU would save $$$ and it would create some excitement and possibly sell some more season tickets for next year as we head into the Big East.

Either bowl will give us almost a month more of practice. That's whatsup.

Either bowl will give us almost a month more of practice. That's whatsup. Yeah, having our bowl the first weekend possible last year sucked. I remember Hoke said the single best, most valuable part of getting a bowl berth is the practice time.

Nice to be having this discussion. Just don't screw this up by losing to Wyoming!

My first choice is beating UCLA in a no wind Vegas Bowl. My second choice is beating UCLA in a blustery you can't throw Vegas Bowl. Third place goes to shutting out BYU in the PBowl.

I'm torn. I'll already be in Vegas that weekend anyway, so that's a non-issue. However, if it's in San Diego, we can have another day-long tailgate extravaganza.
All tolled, how often can Aztecs fans say, "Worst case scenario we'll be playing in a bowl game at home against arguably our most hated rival."
