hey, the game was in 'Cuse's hands. We all knew it. There was no way we were going to win with that environment. thats all there is to it. I'm sure as the game played itslef out, Fisher's worst nightmares came to fruition. It was a pretty bad idea to begin with, playing them outdoors.
but, if Exposure was our motive, then we got what we wanted.

I do believe that we got out-coached a bit...in that we should have hacked the Orange and forced them to the line where they had to shoot in the wind...
...but that's not why they lost the game...they lost the game because they couldn't shoot in the wind...not FGs...not FTs...
Once Sryacuse figured that out...the game was essentially over...there was no way that the Aztecs could win an inside game...PERIOD...take away any and all shots beyond 12'...and the Aztecs are toast...all Syracuse needed to do was to put 4 bigs in the box and dare the Aztecs to shoot from the outside in the gale force wind (if you saw the flags blowing you would not dispute the force of the wind Sunday afternoon)...once they were unable to shoot outside (due to the wind) and now inside (due to the trees planted there)...game over
The Aztecs are good...really good...they never gave up and played hard until the end...
Mother Nature beat them yesterday...and they will go on to play another game...

he got out coached it was obvious to see his zone offense is terrible all he did was screen at the top no movement no short corner no penetration and in those conditions when you cant stop them and they have height advantage you play a zone they dont have any pure 3 pt shooters either. and free throws is coaching also you cant blame the players if they arent getting coached on shooting. poor coaching we didnt adjust at all

Players essentially played lazy...lazy passes, lazy attempts to crash the boards, lazy hands holding (or not) onto the ball, and lazy shots (one got JF sent to the bench near the end). 'Cuse swatted weak shots like fly's. It was easy picking...

'Cuse swatted weak shots like fly's. It was easy picking... I was saying that during the game. We'd go for a finger roll, they'd go hard with a two handed jam. We weren't aggressive enough around the rim on O but trying to shoot from under and around the rim wasn't doing anything with their length.

Does the 'visiting' team on a neutral court get to choose which side they defend? Had we began the game with the sun at our back, it would have been a different game altogether. By playing the role of guinea pig in that first half, Boheim saw what was (and what wasn't) working as we tried to adjust to the exposure issues on the W end of the court. Furthermore, from a purely strategic perspective, I rather let my opponent struggle against the elements to begin the game, and play from a position of strength in the 2nd half while they try to catch up. After twenty minutes of chucking bricks, there was surely some psychological impact that carried over to the 2nd half - I just don't know how else to explain that s#!++y performance form the stripe. Nice theory but how were they making their free throws in the second half then after the wind actually picked up. They played under the same conditions. We just got our asses handed to us, plain and simple. Learn and move on.

Hell, half the drunks in the stands could see that...

I would have switched to a zone in the second half when they were forced to shoot into the wind/sun. We stayed man up and they kept going inside and pounding us. Should have made them shoot like we did.

Fire Fisher! Better yet, name the court at Viejas Arena after Coach Steve Fisher. Now!!!
The Coach did a fine job. The players were anxious on that floatilla. The wind wreaked havoc on shots over 8 feet out.

It was simply a matter of playing in a unique environment that was not conducive to our style. He would have been wrong to change his style to chase this lone victory, he stuck with his schematic philosophy as it will help build for improvement throughout the year.
It would have been myopic of Fisher to abandon the perimeter game, we wouldn't have won that way anyways. In a gym, no wind, we win. Outside in the elements its a loss, might as well lose running your offense

Nothing wrong with giving all the credit to Syracuse. They beat us down. They are just better. Not like we got beat 100-56
