A few thoughts:
I found myself thinking the same thing.....why did we play this game?
This reminds me of the Baylor loss early last season, except we have better excuses this season for not getting it done.
It also reminds me of NC State NCAA game in which we were outnumbered inside.
Syracuse is a great looking team and this game played right into their strengths.
We are a guard driven team that thrives on getting momentum from tough d, timely outside shooting, and driving to the basket to get fouled, especially Jamaal.
Today, the wind was in our heads, we played some tough d, forced the issue/played too fast, hit no outside shots at all, got fouled driving to the basket, however with the wind in our heads, we could not make a FT. If we make half our FT's, we might have actually had a chance in this one.
An ugly game for the Aztecs that probably should have had an uglier score line.
Our effort for the most part (except for getting back after turn overs), was excellent and the Aztec spirit of never giving up in the face of adversity was apparent.
This does not end the season. It is just the beginning.
If anyone wants to jump off the bus by reading into or saying too much about this game, then please get off now.

The only way it reminds me of baylor or nc state is that I knew going in we were playing a better team. Call it what you want, sdsu got beat. Syracuse would have beat us on a carrier, at the carrier, or in viejas. Everything else is just an excuse. In march it may be different, but for now syracuse is a better team. For years, we've bitched about not playing the big boys and flat out claiming teams were afraid to play us. Outdoors or not. A good team came and beat us straight up. You want to be the best, you gotta beat the best.
You think this game won't be a confidence booster come crunch time down the road?

Azthetic ... I think you got the thought. We played way below what was expected of them and each time we missed a FT it got worse. I was thinking that if we could get it to 10 points behind by half, we would rebound. Well, that never happened. And your right, it was all in their heads. I remember a YBU game that we lost and everyone was ready to walk the plank. But then they went on to the sweet 16. One game even two or three is not going to define this team. If they are as smart as I think they are and Fisher is the teacher I think he is, .... we are fine .. today was a setback, but not all the way back I liked the Midway game and really where are you going to find better PR. I sat there watching the game from the cheap seats and thought as I looked over the bay and saw the "stars and stripes" sail by, ... who wouldn't want to be here today. Other teams watched this broadcast and probably said to their coach, lets go there! You don't think that Kanas didn't note that SU was playing in San Diego. Come on ... I believe we will get more prime time games because of this Midway game.

This doesnt help us at all, blowout loss on national tv. Yes, I think you are correct. Of course, losing by 13 is not exactly a blowout, but it was clear that Syracuse was WAY better than the Aztecs. That's all that many not-so-knowledgable fans will notice. Many of them will not take into account that Syracuse is a Top-5 team. They will only see that we did not look competitive. AzWm

The only thing I can say is that I feel bad for the pounding San Diego Christian is about to receive.

I believe we will get more prime time games because of this Midway game. I live in San Diego and couldn't even watch the game at my house. If this game was televised on a major network, like last year, it would probably change my perception a bit. If we are going to lose, I would like to know it was a legitimate loss.

I'd love to see the Vets Day game be done in a Military fieldhouse. Play it at Larson's Gym. Had MANY a game there. Not any more, it is now the refurbishing facility for all our vintage Marine aircraft and armored vehicles for our Museums program! Camp Lejeune has an excellent fieldhouse, I suspect Benning and Bragg have them too!

And against long, athletic teams with big guards and a post presence? Expect it to be shoveling $#!+ uphill like today.

I once ate caviar. Having done so, I can say that those who claim it's some kind of great meal have their patrician heads up their butt.
My reaction about playing basketball on an aircraft carrier is now identical.

How about a hangar at Miramar or somewhere at Pendleton? Would either of those work? Paige Fieldhouse at Camp Pendleton?

At least state has some excuses for this beat down given the conditions. No excuses...! Did you notice the other team playing in the SAME conditions...?? Great experience for our team....perhaps the beat down will give them that much more incentive on where and how to improve...!!

Yes no excuses.
But still this equation sucks :
Syracuse 2-3 Zone with wind and sun in face > any team without outside shooting

LOL.
Not only can't our SD teams play the right way, we fans can't even complain the right way.

You guys can have these Carrier "classics". This reminds me of playing down on the beach at South Mission. No thanks. Couldnt agree more man. Just take a look around the country with the other games. Its just not a good idea anymore. i'm glad we played, but Syracuse was a bad choice. It was like playing a football team with a dominant running game in the snow.....oh wait thats US vs Wyoming in two weeks!

I love how we're just turning our backs on the community of SD who put is in this game to begin with. Now, we're using words like "never again," "no, thanks" and "gimmick" to describe a game that we could not be happier to be a part of only a few months/weeks ago.
We get our asses handed to us and all of a sudden this game is a gimmick?
No, sir.
We had PLENTY of opportunity to keep the game close at the free throw line and could not make them to save our lives, literally.
Our guys were playing out of control for an entire first half, little to do with the wind and more to do with the Syracuse defense.
10 blocks from Syracuse, nothing to do with the wind.
We had double-digit turnovers in the game, not wind related.
Syracuse drives the basket at will, not wind related.
Based on that evidence alone, I think Cuse would drop 80 on us indoors.
Are these carrier games a good idea? It depends on who you ask.
Will we ever be apart of any more in the future? No.
Did SDSU straight up lose this game? Yes.

Haha..
So there is already a report out that says the Carrier Classic will once again open next season on the USS Yorktown.
Carrier games continue!
Apparently they have engineered a way to keep condensation off the court!
