This sucks! www.mlbtraderumors.com/Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal as been suspended 50 games after testing positive for a high testosterone level, the team announced. "We were disappointed to learn of the suspension of Yasmani Grandal for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention & Treatment Program," said the team in a statement. "We fully support Major League Baseball's policy and its efforts to eliminate performance enhancing drugs from our game. Per the protocol outlined by Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement, we will not comment further on this matter.” Grandal, 23, hit .297/.394/.469 with eight homers in 226 plate appearances for San Diego last season, his first taste of the big leagues. He was acquired from the Reds in the Mat Latos trade. Grandal was slated to be the team's starting catcher next year, potentially freeing Nick Hundley up for a trade. Those plans -- as well as a decision to potentially non-tender John Baker -- may have to change. Read more at www.mlbtraderumors.com/#jxRUUzzGgKDwW2zz.99

It doesn't change the fact that steroids are banned in baseball, not to mention illegal without a prescription.

How did Ryan Braun get away with it?

I don't think he ever refuted steroids specifically, he and his legal team targeted the chain of possession and the handling of the specimen. That's the technicality he won his case on.

It was reversed on a technicality, but he certainly did refute the allegations vehemently. Not that I believe him.

It had to be within 2 days but it was 3 days because of a long weekend.

Grandal is now on the restricted list. That means he doesn't count toward the 40 man roster. This might just save the Padres a young stud that would otherwise be a rule 5 or assignment loss. They have already lost Jos Spence and had to trade Tekotte.

three Reds Minor leaguers suspended. Add Grandal, former Reds farmhand, to that list. It seems the Reds need some organizational control or better scouting as far as character is concerned.

Everth Cabrera will not be suspended unless he tests positive. The MLB agreement calls for Random testing. That means they can not even test him outside the normal random chance of the system. Cabrera did manage to put up above average offense (for SS) when batting lefthanded. That does not even count his value via stolen bases. If we could find a SS to play against lefties (Forsythe) we could get much better production from that position. Offensive Production from SS.267 .347 .351 .698 Cabrera versus Right Handed Pitching .258 .312 .385 .697 NL Average .256 .309 .376 .685 MLB Average .253 .305 .366 .671 AL Average .204 .277 .274 .551 Cabrera versus Left Handed Pitching Forsythe believes and the Padres hope that he can handle the position defensively. .384 .465 .545 1.010 Forsythe versus Left Handed Pitching (99 AB)
