And Carlos Quentin would have been #1 had he had enough at bats. Headley #9. Lets hope our "selectivity" leads to a little more run production!
Padres 2013!

The Padres were 5th in the NL in runs per game durng July, August, and September. Since half those games were in Petco Park, That made them on of the best offenses in the NL during that period. Since July 1 the Padres outscored 3 of the 5 playoff teams in the NL. Pitching is what they need to improve - especially if Gyorko does what a lot of people think he can.

While I realize that is a valid place to start your analysis (return of Quentin, middle infield promotions) extrapolating 3 months of baseball data makes me a little nervous. It is encouraging, but not exactly a demonstration that our offense is "playoff caliber." I use that term a little tongue-in-cheek because we have seen time and time again that great pitching>great hitting.
But I will agree on the pitching front. Hopefully any and all of this year's tv contract money goes directly toward a front-end pitcher or two.

I project each of the starting 8 as being above average offensively for their position in 2013, even without taking Petco Park into consideration. I have never felt that way about a Padres team before.
