Next year we only have Adam and Aaron as Escobar is likley to go Pro. I hope they have some plans like the old senior grad transfer.

We are looking at De'Marieya Nelson of San Joaquin Delta College. Whether he qualifies academically or not is unknown. Also, his eligibility is unknown, he graduated from high school about 2008. One more unknown, would this blocking tight end, 6' 2" and 235 pounder be better suited as a tight end or fullback?

I prefer we go after some HS TEs. Already have 6'5 David Wells, but I hope SDSU could get either 6'6 Matt Burke or 6'7 Bryce Fitzner (of Francis Parker HS). Also, I'll personally be surprised if Gavin Escobar declares early for the draft.

Escobar's stats after six games: 17 receptions, for 254 yards, and 2 TD's. That's 3 receptions per game. Anyone know the deal? He had just 1 reception against Fresno and just 2 receptions against Hawaii. And oh BTW, Escobar's cumulative stats were seriously padded against 1AA North Dakota, where he had 5 receptions for 116 yards. If he's an NFL-ready tight end as everyone seems to think, then he's terribly underutilized. Also remember Escobar was named to multiple preseason award lists.

He has had alot of drops this year a couple ruight between the numbers. Youu are not going to go into 2013 with only two tight ends,HS kids will not cut it we need a couple JC guys as well.

I think Escobar is still running with the brace on his knee from a hit he took in the spring. His numbers might indicate that he's playing hurt?
He's not as polished a runner... yet.

As mentioned , there are some TE 's, the Aztecs are looking at. Stronger needs are stud lineman on both sides of the ball. If we have a QB that can throw the ball he would be wiser to stay. Last year he was the team's best receiver but this year Katz - has a wide variety of guys to throw to. They may want to run more short routes- because most of these guys can get a lot of yardage after the catch, protection would easier for OL and Katz. I do not have the stats on how many balls he has dropped but it seems more then last year.

I hope Escobar listens to Rocky if the prognosis comes in that he would be better off staying for his senior year. He clearly is not having the year he had last year. Does not seem to be running that well.

Agree with others on here,. Believe Escobar will return. We have:
Escobar Roberts Boesch Miller Wells - a commit ranked #73 Burke- a possible visiting in Dec. and ranked #47
We have been using 3 TEs at times this year.

You want to play true freshman at Tight end of a 6-2 220 walk on? If Escobar goes, and you have one injury at tight end ,your screwed. Maybe they should put Craighead back as he is not making an impact at tackle.

I'm not playing anyone. Last year Roberts played enough to letter and he was a true Frosh. If true Frosh are good enough to make the 2-deep then they will play. UCLA has played 11 true Freshman already this year and I believe U$C has played 13. Kottman has worked himself to #2 at NG......as a true Frosh.....he has passed everyone on the depth chart except Meredith....good for him. All Frosh are not destined for red shirt........depends on their skills, progress and ability as well as needs and depth.

Hope Kottman can get bigger and stronger. He has some quickness and raw athleticism. I thought Craighead would be #2 nose tackle and I have not seen him lately.

The fact that we took Kottman's redshirt off so early in the season shows how weak we are at the D-Line, not necessarily a reflection on Kottman's skills. Poor kid is getting pushed around big time every time he sees the field.
