Will Venable had the biggest splits home versus away on the Padres. This should be no surprise. Will has been hurt by Petco Park more than any other Padre over the years. He is left handed and hits balls that Petco Park kills. Movnig fences in will not effect those numbers at all.
Venable Home/Away splits (2009-2012) Home .231 .303 .364 .667 Away .277 .352 .462 .813
Average RF in MLB .262 .327 .434 .761
Will has been well above the average RF on the road. Add in very good defensive range and great base running and Will is well above average. But at home he has been anemic. This year his OPS road/away difference was .234. That was tops on the Padres.
Will Venable Home/Away Split 2012 Away .286 .365 .509 .874 Home .239 .301 .340 .641
The Padres need to find a team that understands how valuable Will Venable would be on a club who has a hitter's park or even a neutral park.
The reason to trade is because Venable is more valuable to other teams than he is to the Padres. It hurts me to say this since I like Will Venable a lot.

Maybe. His speed is intriguing. Maybe he could become a more prolific contributor in a more hitter friendly park (Coors or Yankee Stadium) but clubs are going to look at a guy who hits 10 hrs with a .245-.260 avg and hold that against him.
You won't get any established superstars for him to be sure.

You won't get any established superstars for him to be sure. His .509 Road SLG and his good ability to get on base is worth something to a GM who is willing to look at what Petco Park does to a hitter. .509 Sluggers are worth something. Will Venable is also intriguing as a platoon player since he hits right handed pitching so much better. I would love to see his right handed pitching on the road stats. I suspect that is his true worth in a different teams platoon. I suspect it would be close to being a 3,4,5 player. A left handed player who hits righties is the hardest part of a platoon to find. We have Donorifa as the righty who hits lefties. Venable may be hard to replace. Getting a lefty who really excels at hitting right handed pitching would be great. Maybe getting Venable to hit better at Petco Park would be easier. He has increased his LD% every year and his FB% has been coming down. But the results haven't been seen yet in Petco Production.
