Anybody catch the name of the man who was the honorary coin-flipper before the SJSU game? He was escorted by his granddaughter (an SDSU student) and was introduced as a WWII bomber pilot.
My GF's grandfather was also a WWII bomber pilot (piloted the bombing runs over Nazi Germany), so she was interested in looking up the man's unit to see if her grandfather knew him. Thanks for any help!

Yeah, he's my buddy's grandpa. His name is Robert Cardenas. He's pretty famous in the military ranks for quite a few reasons. He gained a lot of notoriety though for flying the plane that dropped Chuck Yeager when he broke the sound barrier. He was actually Yeager's commanding officer at the time. He's a great guy, SDSU alum, and a retired Air Force General.

Yeah, I was just reading that Wikipedia article and about to post it. It'll be interesting to see if the GF's grandfather knows him.

My neighbor, John Andrew Dunaway, was a B-17 pilot and was shot down over Germany in early 1944. Spent 15 months in a POW camp. I have a model of Chuck Jaegers P-51 "Glamorous Glen" over my desk, with his autographed picture next to it. They don't call those guys "The Greatest Generation" for nothin'! Balls of steel!
