Even if its "only" 20M that's still 20X the Vegas bowl. The BE still has to find an permanent alternative bowl for its champion/runner-up, but guess its gonna be way better than what we have today.

Am I missing something? The author comments that $40 million is the "...best that the new commissioner can do..."? Huh? Seems pretty damn good to me. What did we get for the New Orleans Bowl? $750,000 to the MWC and a loss to us?

Most schools in lower tier bowls don't get enough from the payout that it costs to send the team to the game. In the long run it makes financial sense in terms of merchandising and future ticket sales but strictly speaking direct revenue to direct expenditures, many bowls are losing propositions.

But will the teams involved each get $20? In the BCS, when the MWC gots a game they only got a portion of the amount that BCS teams got because the non-BCS conferences shared some of the money.

That's the crux of it. No matter how much the new bowl ends up being worth, if it has to be split amongst all the have-nots, then it will be a pittance by comparison to the other six. Now if the teams playing split half and then the rest goes in a pot that's a different matter.
