This also puts, firmly to rest, the insane rumor that most of the gyms in the Big West can't handle TV cameras. People really said that?

In the end, show me the money. Not to be Tejas, but there should be no way in hell Northridge or Davis should get anywhere near our dollars. JMO. After ESPN and FSN select their schedule, my guess is that SDSU would end up with most of the non-premiere ooc games and not more than a handful of home conference games. This deal with Fox is also good because if Fox ever wants to start putting NCAA basketball on FX, it gives the Big West and SDSU an inroad to that. Assuming that the Big West can arrange for the usual 1st tier 10-15 games on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU plus bracket busters, it could end up being a very good media package. This isn't just better than what the MWC will have, it will be miles ahead. So you are saying that State will retain the 3rd Tier rights? What would suck is we get all this exposure on ESPN and FOX but have to "Share" aka gift money to the dregs.

The exposure on FSN and ESPN is worth it. Tier 3 rights are good. Compared to the MWC keeping everything, it's great. However, tier 3 rights aren't worth a ton.

how much money do you think this deal is really worth? couple hundred grand a year? We won't be 'gifting' that much money. We are going to likely end up on TV in LA a lot which is going to be great for the entire university - keep winning near this clip or even better in the tourney and it could end up being the biggest thing to happen to this university

The Padres are paid $250K per game. The way that Aztec basketball is playing in San Diego these days, I wouldn't be surprised with some Padres type ratings in San Diego if they are on a station everyone has and knows.

Why would anyone have time warner in the first place? Direct TV is miles better. not everyone has the option of getting satellite. True, but most restaurants and bars have it. At least there will be a way to see the game, better than what can be said for this season. ..Sent from my Samsung GS3..

This is terrific news...especially for people who have Time Warner and ATT U-Verse. I say that because it adds another log to the fire on the side of Fox Sports San Diego. Now they have the Padres exclusively who are on the upswing with new ownership...AND now they have the top draw in San Diego sports wise in the Aztecs.
In my opinion, its gotta be just a matter of time now that Time Warner and ATT finally cave-in and we ALL get FSSD. Just waiting for that to OFFICIALLY happen is still a bitch.

I don't know about that. The Padres are paid $250K per game. That's great for the padres. SDSU will probably be getting about that or maybe a bit more for the slate it's leftover MBB games.

Rumor has it that UCR has a storage shed under construction where they can put the badminton nets and yoga mats during basketball games. This space savings should allow for at least a couple of handycams.

It is amazing any UC or CSU school can find money to do this type of project with the screwed up CA government and economy that we have.

I never heard that rumor. Where did you hear that? It's what all the MWC MBB mouth breather were saying when the move to the BW was announced.

I think it is very important that AD Sterk consider what will get the best distribution of the games on TV for local fans, alums and to areas where the Aztecs recruit. Basketball needs to be easily viewed through out All of CA . Vegas area, and if possible into Texas........... Getting all the games on TV (L.A area ., Bay Area, Inland Empire, San Diego, SAC,............... )could help combat all the trash other schools (PAC, MW) talk about the Aztecs being in the BW. Same for football, even toss in a little soccer, volleyball , baseball, softball.

Big West strikes deal for television coverage Submitted by Brian Murphy on Thu, 09/27/2012 - 1:01pm, updated on Thu, 09/27/2012 - 1:55pm By Brian Murphy bmurphy@idahostatesman.com The Big West Conference — Boise State's home for most non-football sports beginning in 2013 — agreed to a contract with Fox Sports Networks for the league's second-tier rights beginning in 2012. The deal includes Prime Ticket, Fox Sports West and Fox Sports San Diego, networks that are not available in the Boise market. Commissioner Dennis Farrell said the games will be available on Fox College Sports (Channel 623 on DirecTV) and that an over-the-air carrier (like KTVB) in Boise, unlike other markets covered by the deal, will be allowed to make a deal with Fox to air games locally. All men's and women's basketball games and women's volleyball games will be available online for free as well, Farrell said. Farrell said the deal will result in "a net profit for the conference" and the league will have "net revenue to distribute to members." Farrell would not disclose the terms of the deal. He said the Big West is considering creating incentive pools and reward pools for distributing certain revenues. The Big West is still negotiating with ESPN for its first-tier rights. The Big West had one regular-season men's basketball game on ESPN2, five on ESPNU and men's basketball tournament semifinals on ESPNU and the title game on ESPN2 under terms of the previous deal with ESPN. Farrell said the increased profile of his league – with the additions of Hawaii, San Diego State and Boise State — has changed the negotiations. "They recognize and understand our expectations," Farrell said. Other highlights: • The Big West will meet on Oct. 23 to discuss several issues, including how many men's basketball conference games the league will play. The members had agreed to play 16 conference games during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. That was before the addition of Boise State. "Whether that changes now or not, I don't know," Farrell said. • League officials will also discuss the format of the men's and women's basketball tournaments. The Big West is in the third year of a five-year contract with the Honda Center in Anaheim to host the tournaments. • League officials will discuss adding women's swimming and diving to the sports sponsored by the conference. Boise State's program has won conference titles in each of the last three seasons. Beefeater, you forgot to thank your Daddy, SDSU, for allowing the lesser programs like Irvine to be televised and for the conference to actually get paid for these games being on tv.

If you like ass kissing so much, go find a Boise State Bronco to smooch. You can thank them for bringing your FCS-level football team to the Big East. Fresno by three touchdowns.
