Just got an email from ticketing saying the tickets have dropped to $500 for baseline and $1000 for sideline seats for the midway game.
Cites a "cancelled concert" for the reason for the drop in prices.

email:
The concert that was planned to be part of the festivities has been cancelled. With no concert seating and stage to accommodate, the basketball seating has changed. With this change, the promoters of the event, Syndicus Entertainment, SDSU and Syracuse have adjusted pricing for the seating. SDSU also has additional tickets to sell and advance online ordering options are now available for more of our fans. See the new pricing below.
Battle of the Midway ticket price options:
1. $1000 per ticket* for chairback seating, pregame party, commemorative gift and parking (1 parking pass per 4 tickets)
2. $500 per ticket* for end court bench seating
*A portion of this cost will be considered a charitable gift. The face value is $300.
Due to the limited number of tickets available to SDSU, seats are not guaranteed. Accounts will be
assigned seats in order of the SDSU Athletics Priority Point System:

My stand hasn't changed: It's a nice event, but it's not North Carolina-Michigan State from last year which was the first of it's kind and had several "wow" factors going for it, including the fact it was on an active carrier and had the attendance of the President.
That said, drop it to $150 face value and I'm more likely to crack my wallet. The promoters are still in Dreamland. It's not worth $500 to me. I'd rather spend that kinda dough on the MWC Tourney in Vegas.

Something says this is not the big show they'd expected. Enthusiasm may have gotten watered down (sorry about the pun) by the East Coast copy-cat carrier deal.

Agreed. However, I had several friends who are big UNC fans who told me that they were bombarded simply because they knew he lived here in SD, by fellow alums and boosters, offering $1250-$1500 a ticket. I just hope that the tickets for Syracuse were also marked down. It would suck to have a lot of our allotment purchased and then resold to Syracuse fans.

Tickets for both schools are priced in lock step and more tickets were made available to both schools.

$500 seems a bargain compared to the other carrier games on the same date. As for the game being watered down, the company putting on the event seems to have done a very poor job with things. The concert is cancelled and there is little to no public relations info surrounding the game and related festivities. Reading press releases from April, they touted all kinds of festivities and experiences related to the game. If you look for info now, NOTHING..and we are about 7 weeks out. Compare that to all the stuff going on with the Georgetown game and what you have is a poorly planned San Diego event. The company Syndicus Entertainemnt is the one holding the event...google them..you will find next to nothing. They definitely dropped the ball on this opportunity.
And not to dog SDSU, but the name just doesn't have the national recognition and panache to draw huge sponsorships....the lack of sponsorships probably attributed to the cancellation of the concert and other surrounding events. SDSU has done a great job with its hoop program but outside of San Diego, they don't get much pub. I hate to say it but another matchup would have made this inaugural event more appealing nationally although it is awesome for the hometown team to participate for the San Diego fans.
