...with yesterday's 6-2 loss to the D-Backs. Can't wait to see what next year will be like under the new ownership. Also curious as to who will be released and what key players will be re-signed and brought in from outside.

We may add some pitching via free agency.

The pitching competition is going to be INSANE. I don't expect a lot of roster shuffling. Just need better luck on the injury front and more consistency.

The Padres are one big bat away from being very good. Close, but you left out... a real 2B a real SS a real RF (and "may"be CF) and one proven major league starting pitcher who the league has seen more than once. Not a Venable fan huh? He is pretty bad at home, but he rakes away from Petco. .850 road OPS.

Forsythe/Gyorko means 2B is fine next year. We could improve SS but Cabrera wouldn't be too bad...we don't need to be above average at all positions. I suspect we could be above average at every position except SS without any new talent. Adding an ace and maybe a bullpen arm would be an OK off season. How about Peavy and Adams?

Starting off the season with Hudson/Bartlett really hurt the Padres, but them being veterans, I didn't expect their offensive woes. Major ugrade with Amarista/Forsythe/Cabrera. Also, Headley was trade bait before the All-Star break, and turned into Babe Ruth in the second half the season. Having Quinton in the lineup helped alot since Headley didn't have to try so hard to swing for home runs with the rest of the team's early season hitting problems. I hope this was just a second year funk for Cameron Maybin. Good CF with 20+ HR power, but he had an unnatural amount of strikeouts. Catchers would be good, on paper, with a Hundley/Grandal duo (Baker doesn't cut it for me)

Not a Venable fan huh? He is pretty bad at home, but he rakes away from Petco. .850 road OPS. This year he's been pretty good away from Petco, as he usually is. Still, we have two right fielders, and I'm one of those guys who thinks that if you have two then you really have none. Platoons have been used by many teams, many times, to great effect. San Diego Padres ranking in RF production versus all 30 teams in MLB has been very good. Right Field Production versus all 30 MLB teams OPS #6 BA #8 OBP #6 SLG #11 Runs #3 SB #3 RF is actually one of the best positions the Padres had in 2012 and the defense has been very good. The OPS Ranking of RF is actually better than 3B OPS Ranking RF #6. OPS Ranking 3B #7. Padre Production from RF .277 .350 .461 .811 Padre Production from 3B.277 .365 .479 .844 Production from 3B and RF has been a lot closer than most would believe. Hopefully this platoon will be here next year. There are better places to improve.
