Not bad considering he has played with the team only three weeks so far. His completion percentage is 60.3, fair, yards per attempt is 10.1, and his overall rating is 169.9.
The San Jose QB, Fales, is No. 28 with a higher completion percentage at 73.3, and his yards per attempt is 8.6. His rating is 159.5.
So, what does this mean? I would say get ready for another tight game come Saturday vs. SJSU. They can pass too, and the difference may not be much at all.

Katz is only going to get better...I look for a close game the first half and the Aztecs stretching out to a comfortable lead the second half.

How many drops has Katz had to endure? Certainly nothing like Lindley a year ago but still too many.
The guy has played well and we're fortunate to have him. Would be nice to have a blowout at some point so Dingwell can get some reps, of course.

we;ve got 2 guys basically running free in front of him, as long as that continues he should continue to put up numbers (hopefully we'll run the ball more, though)

It's up to the O-line to keep him clean and standing in the pocket.
Oldie Out

Katz is a much better runner than(28-FOR 146 5.2 YDS A RUSH) Fales(43 RUSHES-31YDS) but if we get no pass rush we are in deep crap. San Jose oline is two inches smaller and twenty pounds lighter per man 289 to 309 than ND. AN intersting game as so is gthe fresno Tulsa game. These two games will gell us a lot about Fresno, SDSU and SJSU.

SJSU hasn't run Fales much. He is more mobile than his stats indicate, but he seems to be more comfortable in the pocket.
However, if you see the backup Jurich in the game, 9 out of 10 times it will be a run, misdirection type of play. He has run the ball 14 times for about 60 yards and 2 rushing TDs. He is 2/3 passing.
Both QB's are in their 4th game with their team. Both have similar ranking and numbers. Katz has more experience at the D1 level, but Fales doesn't seem too fazed by it.
I think the big factors for the game will be SJSU's ability to stop the run. And SDSU's ability to put pressure on the QB.

The guy who beat out Katz at Oregon St. is at #103.

He needs playing time this year.

Hell, why not let him run a series every game since they've put him in there just to run a qb power. He absolutely should be in there throwing the ball at least in games that are getting out of hand, we need him to have some experience

We blew out both Cal Poly and UNM last year. Nevertheless, Dingwell threw exactly one pass all season. We also blew out Army and will blow out the University of Nevada Limited Victories. Rocky has already passed on one opportunity to let Dingwell throw the rock. I say we need to let him play the entire fourth quarter against UNLV.

He also gave a scholly to a frosh kicker, said all the kickers equally suck, and trotted out a one year senior soccer player to kick 3 field goals Rocky obviously doesn't believe in preparatory reps

I'm happy with the progress he's making along with the play calling from coach Ludwig. But if I see that quick out thrown short and behind the wideout again, i'm going to flip. #FixIT That scramble he ran for a called back TD was special. Go Aztecs! Beat san joser state

He absolutely should be in there throwing the ball at least in games that are getting out of hand, we need him to have some experience If Katz was a third or even second year starter, I would probably agree. But at this point I think it is ideal to give Katz as much playing experience as we can. Rocky made the right choice. If there is another blow out over the next few games, maybe then you give Dingwell a couple of posessions.

Now that zkidd mentions it, that quick out isn't exactly Katz's forte.
Attention Lugwig: Let's call that one a bit less often from here on out.
