Basketball: UCLA has got some really good recruits over the past two years (2012 and 2013, so far). They have been from: Nevada, New Jersey, Georgia, Georgia, Washington, and North Carolina. Having UCLA being a national recruiting force leaves a lot of California players up for grabs. It doesn't mean we couldn't beat UCLA for their services but it is much easier to be fighting schools with lesser reps for players.
USC has been getting players that the Aztecs are not real interested in getting.
I hope UCLA beats USC badly every time they play. We need to beat them again. Keep the college fans in LA as UCLA fans and Aztec recruiting will benefit.

Play in Smell A or play in San Diego. San Diego is so much nicer than LA. A recruit should really think about quality of life compared to living the rat race. ANDY

UCLA hired a major AAU coach from GA ,to help them land most of their top recruits for 2012 and 2013, plus their long tradition of winning and how many players they have in the NBA. But their best recruits for 2012, as you noted , are not all from CA. Last year Arizona ,got the best recruits from CA.USC has started to sign quality transfers and is picking up better recruits. Coach Bland is going a good job but needs more help both in CA and other areas. In CA we battle those 2 schools plus Arizona, Wash, UNLV..... It would be helpfull if the staff ,could start to open recruiting into Texas . Would be helpfull, if NCAA rules allow K.Leonard or W.Shepard ,to put the coaches on the right track in Texas.

you want UCLA to beat USC badly? I don't. If USC is getting kids we aren't going after then I want them to beat UCLA so kids won't look at them as being back. I want programs who are after guys we are after to suck.

USC is actually doing really well on the transfer market and should have a very talented team this year, it will be interesting to see if O Neal can coach it now that he has talent.

Suckage by both programs wouldn't break my heart & would probably be good for SDSU recruiting!

Suckage by both programs wouldn't break my heart & would probably be good for SDSU recruiting! That too would be nice...but a nationally recruiting UCLA doesn't hurt us anymore, recruiting-wise, than say Kentucky does. And USC by direct comparison suffers in the eyes of recruits.

One thing that will help us compete with UCLA for recruits is if we beat UCLA this year. We've been trying to play them for years, now we finally are. If we beat them, it will show recruits that we are here and we are staying

Per Dutcher, USC will be the most improved team on the West Coast and could easily surprise a lot of people, with all their quality transfers. UCLA ,if they have all their high school recruits eligible to play, could be their best team in many years. Easily a top 10 team.
