Those are some nice facilities and services. Unfortunately, facilities like these are going to become the norm not because of amenities, but because there is so much riding on big time college sports, that the coaches and University want to look after these investments 24/7.
None of that video to me showed any kind of college life experience. And yes, I certainly do understand that these are athletes who are working out and practicing 8+ hours a day on top of going to college, so the whole pining for “the college experience” is something for simple minded folks like myself that has no basis in reality.
The good news for SDSU is; that I think there are alternatives of the SDSU practice facility plans that show increased space for team dining, study, and lounging. So I think we may see something like this in the future, minus the whole Residence Inn/Halfway House living arrangements. In the end, these types of facilities are great assets to present to a 1 or 2 and done type of recruit that wants to come in, play ball, train hard, play hard for 1 or 2 years, not be bothered by most of the college BS, then go on to play pro ball. Hell, they will be adding to that wall of NBA Wildcats who chose Lexington as their weigh station to the NBA.
However, I can’t help but think of the players who don’t go on to play pro ball. After that, they are going to 23 year old boys; who don’t know how to look for an apartment, cook a meal for themselves, organize time on their own, or otherwise be a fully functioning and independent adult.

aztecs just need a nice practice space that doesn't hurt their legs and also so guys like Leonard don't have to buy a halogen light stand from home depot to shoot buckets at night

There is no denying that Kentucky's facilities are top rate for a college program...now is that the entire reason that kids decide to go there?...no...what is a lot more impressive than sinks built for 7-footers is the banners/trophies that show national championships and a wall dedicated to ex-Kentucky players now in the NBA. High quality kids want to go to a school that will showcase them for the next level.
Interesting enough...notice how they didn't really talk about the academics of the school? Maybe that's because most of their top player over the last several years have been the one and done types...
I wonder how that effects the academic standing of the BB program...doesn't a team get dinged for not graduating players?...or do they have some sacrificial players recruited just to bring up the acadenic standard of the team...a 10th, 11th, and/or 12th man whose sole job is to bring up the GPA of the team?
Just wondering how a program like that seems to skirt the drop-out rate rules...

Have you guys seen the dorms at State lately? Even Cuic isn't that nice. haha ya people in this thread are saying "not impressed", "decent" or "meh", which is obvious they are just saying it out of spite, thinking that it will take away from the amazing facility UK has. Almost like a reverse psychology lol. Whatever works but if that place and their facilities are just "decent" or "meh" then by comparison, SDSU is the disgusting, filthy slums. I have caught onto a lot of people's personalities on here and most of them use reverse psychology. Anything un-related to sdsu, they think is horrible, filthy and "why would anyone want to go there?" hahah It is one thing to be a homer and hold your own school in high regard but come on, don't let that go to an extreme where you show everybody your ignorance and stupidity. And to the person that said "What a bunch of sissies! If a kid picks a school because of their amazing facilities, I don't want them!!! It just shows the kind of kids they want in their program". HAHA really? has ignorance made you that brain dead? The facilities play a HUGE role in a kid's decision. Not just the physical presence of the facility, but also having a facility like that shows to everyone that they are willing to spend every penny to be the top notch program in the country. And you don't want a basketball player because of that? lol do you even understand college sports? But anways, that UK basketball house is sick. Yes, it is not "STATE OF THE ART" but you do realize that really no other school has that right? our student athletes stay in the on campus dorms. So does all the other basketball programs in the country (Im sure some others schools do what UK does) But having what UK does builds more camaraderie. It will keep the guys together and the coaches can also keep a closer eye on them. But aside from that, it is their own little house...how does that not recruit? And you don't want a kid just because he fell in love with the facilities? You do realize that facilities are one of the top factors. To be honest, we dont have that great of facilities. Ours are decent. But its not bad to the point where it scares kids away. We have other things that make up for it. But if we had something like that...it would be a huge boost in recruiting. It would be a huge boost for any school. I was saying it sarcastically, I agree with you 100%. Someone in the past said that if you go to Oregon because of the facilities and uniforms they were sissies.

Judging by the title of this thread, and the first three posts, you'd think that the facility would be God's gift to college basketball. Is it nice? Sure. But IMO it's not as impressive as others make it out to be. And I'm pretty sure spgonzo was being sarcastic. Hence the " " at the end of his statement. So before you start throwing around words like "ignorance" and "stupidity" think before you post. Or perhaps refrain from pretending you know what other people are thinking on an internet message board. Because you sure as hell don't know me. How dare you question S4L! He washes the football team's jock straps, he knows all!!!

Too bad that dorm is heated with coal. ;-)
We are much more progressive in California with our energy.

Hell, they will be adding to that wall of NBA Wildcats who chose Lexington as their weigh station to the NBA. It's a design/build delivery, basically you get criteria (basis of design) documents from the University and a budget. You then provide as many bells and whistles as you can within that budget. The proposals are all vetted by reviewers and then points are awarded based on pre-developed scoring criteria. Also, many of these "larger" facilities that are going up around the country are not for the exclusive use of the basketball, but for all sports. It just happens that the main focus of the facilities is basketball, due to the courts and the team space but they often support other sports. There could be a lot of varying plans, but they still need to secure the funding. If they can't maybe they will try and open it up to other team sports, who knows.
