You would be too if you had an outburst out of nowhere of top ranked recruits.. 2011-2012 under Dave Rice: Bryce Jones: 68th ESPN Katin Reinhardt 38th Rivals Demetrius Morant 144th Rivals Anthony Bennett 7th Rivals/ESPN Khem Birch 9th Rivals Savon Goodman 72nd Rivals Roscoe Smith 37th Rivals/ESPN Christian Wood 33rd Rivals Hutson, Schroyer, Rice and Augmon are a recruiting monster. Of course we are expecting/hoping/praying for 13th ranked Isaac Hamilton and 16th ranked Jermaine Lawrence. Wishful thinking of course, but the way the ball has been rolling.. You're right about recruits mentalities though. Anthony Bennett/Winston Shepard are those who care less about attention and more about fitting in. You'll always have those Shabazz's, Noel's, John Walls, etc. and they'll always go to the school that will make them stand out the most for the next level....meaning blue bloods. Using recruiting rankings for transfers seem a bit out of whack, while I agree with that ranking with Birch, he is a future first round pick and a monster on the defensive end, I think Smith's stock has only gone downhill since he reached UConn, great athlete that hasn't devoloped skills like most think. I think you guys land Lawrence. Since 08-09 State is 9-2 against UNLV......Recruit high ranking players that okay...we recruit athletes who fit the system...

the argument doesn't belong in this thread, but may i point to unlv as an example of a fanbase getting wayyyyy to bigheaded over a recruit(s)? Seriously who cares about UNLV.......This thread was to congratulate Dakari. So why get into a debate.

So stoked to land Dakarai. I was concerned when he got the UCLA offer and his dad said that it was "his favorite."
We now have the initial recruit in the class to build upon like Shrigley was last year.
We have broken the seal.

Allen and Shepard are defensive beasts. Recruit some pure scorers around them and you have a good all around squad for the future.

Oh, and if Tapley could just learn how to shoot a three pointer.

I see that you did only respond to a point made by someone else. I guess it is just the price we are going to pay for the rise of Aztec basketball and the return of UNLV basketball to a national stage. I appreciate you continuing to chime in on UNLV related related content, even when it is heated and we don't all agree.

How is he a four star recruit and yet only is rated at 82?? Still in the top 100? 2013Isaac Hamilton is the #3 player in California and rated 89. Dakarai Allen is the #8 player in California and rated 82. Darrin Johnson is the #10 player in California and rated 79. 2012Matt Shrigley is the #9 player in California and rated 92. Skylar Spencer is the #16 player in California and rated 89. The scale has changed unless there were about 16 players in last years class that were better than the top 3 this year. I just assume the talent is close to equal and we went from #9 to #8 and from #16 to maybe #10. We are working on getting #3 over #8 in Texas (Winston Shepard). That would make this year's class around equal to last year's class via the ratings - which is great since last year's class was the best ever.

you most definitely can. but one recruit, a class does not make. let's all hope we build on this. the argument doesn't belong in this thread, but may i point to unlv as an example of a fanbase getting wayyyyy to bigheaded over a recruit(s)? our coaches are for sure better, and better at developing talent. i am ecstatic we got allen, seriously. but in the long term this is only (hopefully) a sign of things to come. the point was never that we weren't going to get *any* recruits, but that the longer we're there, the more recruiting will be a struggle. in the articles out already, he says how multiple schools are saying "big west! big west!". this kid is now an aztec for life, and im damn proud that a conference affiliation didn't matter to him. but to equate this one kid to all recruits isn't appropriate. -- and edit:: recruits don't change rpi, sos, at large bids, etc. jesus christo on a cracker, gettin' crazy with the Cheese Whiz. Somewhere, in a not-too-distance future, azteccc has already pre-written a post that includes the statement, "yeah, but it's only ONE national championship." Somebody needs to re-up their supply:

ESPN does a terrible job evaluating the west coast when it comes to high school and california in particular, you should ignore their rankings.
