Norte Dame out but BYU is soon to come in. A whole lot of folks have said that BYU will not join Big East now that ND has left. But this is far from the truth.
If Notre Dame made the move for scheduling issues, then what happens to BYU. BYU has a "TBA" on all their football scheduling for 2013-2015 which includes ND in November. ND will be pressed to schedule BYU now that their is little room for scheduling. Can BYU take a chance that they they will remain irrelevant in football in the coming seasons for November and maybe post football games? Nope they can't.
BE foresaw this coming, Big East negotiated with Notre Dame and simply new ND was not interested in what BE had planed for them in terms of negotiating the TV contract. ND has a deal with NBC and probably voiced their opinion to BE, but BE's new contract might threaten ND's deal with NBC. But guess what BYU has no contract with NBC. BYU at this moment is being pushed hard to join a conference, now that independence is looking like a very bad deal in the future. If BYU was going to enter Big East, then now is a good time as any.
If you're team is Inde you better find a conference quick or make a deal like what ND will have with the ACC. 5 game deal is not bad for ND, and they will still remain Inde and keeping their existing NBC deal. BYU needs a conference affiliation now, and yesterday would have been better.
Will BYU call up MWC to negotiate a deal to comeback? Nope MWC and BYU don't see eye to eye, and MWC and BYU both share resentment.
WIll BYU get into PAC 12? Nope least likely out of all the conferences.
Will BYU get into the Big 12? Maybe but they are happy with 10 and plus with the addition of ND to ACC effectively take any expansion of the table for the Big 12 in the coming years. FSU and Clemson are going to love their ACC conference now. Hard to leave when its sunny and beautiful in your town all of a sudden, especially since your about to get a pay raise.
Whats left? Big East! As much as I hate to say it, BYU will be part of the Big East in the near future. Expect to hear this announcement in the coming months if not weeks.
If you think Aresco didn't see this coming a month ago, then you are blind. Aresco knows how to negotiate TV deals and knows what to expect. I'm sure he has a back up plan. Strings are being pulled long before ND announcement.
What happens now? Big East and BYU happens. Its probably happening right now we just don't know it.
