A sobering and realistic assessment. One point, that has reflected my concerns regarding the football program: "So, faced with earning around $1 million a year from Mountain West rights, schools like BYU, Utah, TCU, Boise State and San Diego State all made financially prudent (if, in some cases, geographically curious) decisions"..Undeniably, there will be more money and more exposure for the football program when it joins the New Big East, (which, frankly isn't saying much). Whether this will convert to more wins will certainly remain to be seen. Yet another "pivotal" game for the program this past weekend unfortunately produced expected results. As always, we'll see.

Aztecs hoops following a Memphis/Gonzaga model? ESPN exposure on the Mesa? Turning Big Lots into a multi-bid league? Sounds pretty damn good to me.

I tried to make the the analogy of the Gonzaga model about a month ago. Unfortunately I spelled Gonzaga wrong, and the thread became more about that than a basketball program. All I can say is that if Steve Fisher is excited about entering the Big West next year, then so am I.
And Craig Thompson is clueless, IMO. He says in the last paragraph of that first article that it's all about football, and the MWC wasn't all that concerned with keeping the BSU and SDSU non-football sports. So, how is that working out for you Craig? The big money being in football, what are you offering your member schools right now? What a joke!

I don't think it's necessarily because of the move to the Big West, but given the school has publicly announced a coach-in-waiting, my bet is this is Coach Fisher's last season at the helm. I'm claiming no insider knowledge, it's just a hunch.

I'm claiming no insider knowledge, it's just a hunch. Yeah, I hope we're wrong, but I kinda have the same hunch as well. Even if the conference change weren't happening, I don't think he'd want to keep stringing along Dutch for much longer. Yes, I know Dutch is on record as saying it doesn't matter to him and they have a great working relationship as is, but I don't think Fish would do that to him after all the loyalty he's shown over the years. The conference change is just a good breaking point for something I think would happen much sooner than we would all like anyways. Again, hope my "hunch" is dead wrong.

You can assure anyone, but you do not know if that is true or false, [mod's note: text in violation of board rules deleted]

Bob Thomason at Pacific announced he is stepping down after the season. Probably due to their leaving for the WCC. If Fisher wanted to make the same move, he would have done so already.

Oh my...
SDSU will be Gonzaga like, BW will improve into a two or three bid league like WCC.
Football is not going to just survive, but thrive...

I honestly had higher expectations for this team going forward than just being Gonzaga like.

I honestly had higher expectations for this team going forward than just being Gonzaga like. projects.washingtonpost.com/ncaa/mens-basketball/schools/gonzaga/Yea... why would you want to set your expectations so low to be "Gonzaga like?" 14 straight seasons with 25+ wins since 1999 14 straight NCAA appearances (Elite 8, 6 Second Round, 4 Sweet 16) 3 first round NBA picks since 1999

Seriously? Mission you are either a troll or an idiot. Zero chance this is Fish's last year.

Seriously? Mission you are either a troll or an idiot. Zero chance this is Fish's last year. Closer to 35-40%. Without the conference shift, he had a couple left. With it, who knows. Logical time to hand over the reigns. If I had to guess, he'll stay for one BW year.
