I open the morning paper with my coffee and see that the Padres are now 60-70, (while the NL team in NY that s*ts money is 10 games under .500, but I digress). And young Casey Kelly had a pretty good night.
If the current pattern holds true to form, and current leadership pushes the right buttons, I see a possible 90 win season next year, before the team, once again, unravels. Gotta enjoy it while one can. March should be fun.
That said, I'm going to see Tucson tonight and a chance to see what a truly last place team looks like in person. I dunno.
San Diego Padres, Chargers and Aztecs. It's never easy.

AztecTom placed a bet on the Padres Over 72 wins during the MWC Tournament in Vegas. I was going to make the same bet, but was sick that entire trip. When the Padres were 19-40 and all the starting pitching was injured, I was pretty glad that I wasn't able to place that bet. Well, the laugh is on me because it looks pretty certain that Tom will win his bet. If the season started June 29, the Padres would have a 4 game lead in the NL West. Anthony Bass is scheduled to start the game. I'm looking forward to it. This young man looks like the real deal. Once again, there's some serious talent on this team that I truly hope they can hold on to. Living in a minor league town all these years I know "call ups" can impact a teams performance. No team has been impacted more this year than the SLBees, (yes even if it's that one special player), as the Angels try to play catchup with the Rangers, but not knowing how the process has worked thus far in Tucson I don't know how this process has impacted the AAA Padres. That said, I wasn't really trying to imply that the Pads last place standing in their PCL division is necessarily the result of ineptitude. Like losing weight and knowing the real challenge is keeping it off, going back to Kevin Towers and then some, the team finds these gems, (and yes, some stones), but, again, it's a matter of keeping them.

This season really reminds me of 2009 where they started poorly but came down the stretch like a bat out of hell. In 2010, we snagged 90 wins. Hopefully history is repeating itself.

Agree 100%.
The cupboards are no where near bare, they are close to full with 'quality' and some quantity.
