I am moving this thread to the Culture and Values section. Here's why; the basic issue here is why so many people think that the rules do not apply to them. Sports figures represent a large percentage of those people, to be sure. However, I think we could easily identify offenders from various walks of life (Hollywood stars, for instance) who display the same rotten attitude.
WLRsports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-dagger/top-recruit-collapses-court-receiving-three-prison-sentence-141153269--ncaab.htmlThis is some powerful footage. Ought to be shown to to HS recruits everywhere. Some of these kids do not have a pause button. They have been coddled and protected and put on a pedastel since they were 12-13 years old and figure because they can ball, people will look the other way. You can see from his reaction to the verdict, he thought he would playing college soon.

That's a weak conclusion to be made from this incident.

I feel for the victims more than this punk who committed the crimes.
What? Just because he can ball means he's exempt from the law?
He should be okay, they got bball courts in prison. Just don't drop your soap.

That's a weak conclusion to be made from this incident. If you read the article it says he thought he'd get probation.

I have no ideas about the facts in the case. However by the look on his face he was totally surprised, as was his lawyer. He plead guilty which means that there was a plea bargain. Obviously the judge did not go along with it.

Obviously the judge did not go along with it. Apparently there's security cam footage of him kicking his ex-gf in the head repeatedly.

Yea but that's not the same as saying that this is a result of star athletes being put on a pedestal. People can be stupid and make terrible decisions, regardless of stature. There are many reasons that athletes should be more humble and aware of how fragile life can be. But some asshole hurting his gf isn't evidence of that.

He thought he was above the law, he has/had no respect. He was convicted for punching and kicking a woman...this kid more than earned the punishment and should have gotten more. I don't understand why someone beats up someone they claim to love. His parents failed him.
