Great point. I loved how we had perhaps 1-2 football games on ESPN, regional, crappy nights and hours, and a couple other on ESPN + (PPV). Hoops, what was it, 1-2 games too? It was awesome. |

I think we'll end up on NBC, they need us a lot more than espn and will be willing to pay more and give more exposure.

Totally awesome. And who can forget when games weren't televised at all or those awesome big monday basketball games that tipped at midnight eastern and were never part of the promos? ESPN was awesome. If the MWC would have stayed with ESPN, we would be exactly like the SEC by now. |

The more competition the better as they always say. If, ESPN is the only major network covering college sports in general we will all be losers.
Fox Sports, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, or who ever can all make college sports programming that much better because they are all trying to out do each other. When you have a monopoly things get stale and run down.
Just like the competition on a team, the more you have good people competing the better will be the final results.

This is pretty amazing information. Unfortunately, perception is reality. The Big East needs to get louder about their successes on the field. The new comish is on the right track.

Aresco is not going to accept a deal with ESPN without knowing what NBC is willing to bid. And NBC won't be outbid for the BEast tv package because the Notre Dame deal runs out in a few years and they could be left without any college football. I'm figuring $12.0M per football school and maybe more.

Curious what the big west basketball tv contract would contribute to SDSU? Because we are in 2 conferences, does that mean we get paid on 2 tv deals?

If we went with ESPN we would be living in the closet under the stairs. The BE would be important to NBC. That is the place to be.

Don't forget NBC is 51%-owned by Comcast and 49% by GE. Both companies are in good shape financially. ESPN is 80%-owned by Disney and they are in excellent financial shape. So both companies have the ability to make huge offers.

In hindsight I agree. But after the MWC started the Mountain, it's not like I was getting tired of all the WAC coverage on ESPN. And where is the WAC now? |

Either one is a problem, both is a catastrophe. But, the Pac and the consultants we've hired have shown that it takes more than one network to handle all the inventory. We're going to end up on more than one network, likely NBC for football, ESPN mostly for bball but a few football games, and 3rd tier going to regional networks like fox, comcast or the laker channel

Our basketball would be a great late night draw for the East Coasters and we're in a major media market so they need to connect the dots, somehow. |
