And let's not forget that Southern Utah out-scored UNLV 22-0 in the second half last year nor that we never win at the Idaho quonset hut either. Thankfully UpChuck is gone . . .

I forgot to look up who there QB is. When I was reading the postings on Siouxsports.com, I notice a mention of their QB having ACC experience. So this is who he is. Good to know.

I watch the Cal Poly game on tv, it was a shoot-out. Checking the stats, UND didn't throw the ball particularly well last year. In fact, at least statistically, they were a rather strange team. Great in returning punts but equally bad in punt coverage. Great in kicking at 15-19 in FGs but not so great with forcing TOs - just eight INTs on the year. Of course, given the weather they sometimes play in, maybe the Big Sky is a ground it out league. One rather odd stat is that UND has eight Californians on its roster and all play on defense. Although none are from any closer than Culver City, you have to think each will bring every possible relative so we might get a decent turnout even though the Padres also play that night. (Like anybody would actually watch the Poods by that point in the season. Sorry, Daygans, couldn't help myself.) Now that I've seen they have a quality QB, I'm looking forward to the game. Maybe Rocky will go for it on fourth down inside his own 20?

So, North Dakota made it to the Big Sky Conf. Good for them, I remember seeing them play as a Div II program.
Aztecs should mop the field with them.

Given SDSU's "quirky" history against supposedly weak teams (does anyone but me remember our loss to Cal-Poly Pomona to start an otherwise outstanding 1962 season! ?), I am unwilling to say that any opponent should not be taken seriously. That QB is listed at 6'6''/193. If Harris or Fely hits him, he may not get up. Hang in there, Matt

AzWm I dont care about these guys. Why is this a story? If we somehow lose to these guys, then we'll talk. Simply put, depending on the result these are the kind of games that cause coaches to eventually lose their jobs.

That QB is listed at 6'6''/193. If Harris or Fely hits him, he may not get up. Don't know where you got that since he's listed as weighing 212 on their official site. He redshirted at UNC in 2008, then threw 22 passes cumulatively in 2009-2011 before transferring. Here's the analysis from ESPN's scout when he came out: insider.espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/evaluation/_/id/49660/braden-hansonAfter checking into it further, I tend to agree with others that since UpChuck is gone, the game won't be close. This guy is very tall and apparently adept at touch passes but he isn't mobile and at 6-6, will be a sitting duck for our blitzers coming from all directions. So their passing game will be limited to throws to the backs in the flat, quick outs and the occasional Go! route up the sidelines. We beat Cal Poly 49-21 last year and this game should be similar. Unlike JYP, I enjoyed watching that one and will enjoy watching this one, as well.

Don't forget it was only about 40 years ago that we were Division II ourselves, and they do have a winning record. Their QB is a transfer like ours (from North carolina), and in 2006 he threw for 39 TD's vs. only 12 pics. I don't care if it was high school. Anyone who can throw 39 TD's in one year must be very good. The only Aztec QB who has thrown for 39 is Dennis Shaw back on the undefeated 1969 team. No Aztec has done it since then. So, they have my attention and respect.

Katz has a full year of starting under his belt while Hanson only had a handfull of passes at UNC. Of we are where we think we are in our development, I think we are, Adam Dingwell should be playing most of the second half.

From the Big Sky website:
2012 Football Standings School Conf Pct Overall Home Away Streak Cal Poly 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Eastern Washington 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Idaho State 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Montana 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Montana State 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- North Dakota 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Northern Arizona 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Northern Colorado 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Portland State 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Sacramento State 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Southern Utah 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- UC Davis 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 --- Weber State 0-0 0.000 0-0 0-0 0-0 ---
Props to the Big Sky. It's been a very well managed conference and with the exception of Cal Poly and UCD makes geographical sense.
Notice they're now at 13. Add USU, SJSU, UNM, UNLV and UNR and you have an even number of football members. (Just kidding, of course.)

zuma> in no way, shape, or form am I comparing their QB to Katz. I am only trying to show that those who seem to think we will mop the field with them could be completely wrong.
I'm glad the football team doesn't approach these games with the attitude some here seem to be showing. Remember, even when we had bad teams, and some poor coaching we still gave BCS teams like Ohio St., Michigan, and ND a few years ago some very tough games that we almost won.
This North Dakota team is not bad, and with a few breaks could give us more than many expect. Don't overlook them is all I'm trying to say.
